DEFENDING champion West Negros University Mustangs were joined by University of St. La Salle Stingers and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Rams who finally ended their campaigns in the 15th University Games in Dumaguete last night.
WNU bowed to 2009 PRISAA tormentor San Beda College in a heartbreaking loss, 1-0 in the their quarterfinal match while the Stingers, No.2 in Bracket B, also lost to University of the Philippines, 1-0 at Silliman ballfield.
The Rams were also eliminated earlier by De La Salle University due to goal difference despite ended their match in a draw.
On the other hand, at Perdices stadium, Central Philippines University backed by nine Koreans on its lineup and topped bracket C lost to DLSU, 1-0 while De La Salle School-College of St. Benilde also beat Dipolog Medical Center College Foundation, Inc., 1-0 ending the chances of all provincial schools’ teams to dominate the said sports disciplines.
Today’s crossover semifinals will be a tossup between UP against SBC in the first game followed by DLSU going up against DLS School-College of St. Benilde.
The winners will dispute this year’s 15th University Games football title, while the losers will vie for third place.
