NEWS UPDATE about PHIL NT in TAIWAN:
ReplyDeletewww.PFSA.biz
Do you have the complete squad list? Preferably by position of the players. As I'm sure the squad was trimmed to a 20 man squad.
ReplyDeleteNo I dont have a complete list . I posted a 26 man list on 22. September :
ReplyDeletehttp://filipinofootball.blogspot.com/search/label/Philippines%20Men%60s%20NT
I dont know if it is 20 players going to Taiwan , but Gould , Ott and Schröck seem not be be going to Taiwan.
Gould was never in the original plans anyway, right. He wont be a big loss. Phil Y is back and with Ray from Iceland, Gould wont be missed.
ReplyDeleteGould was in the 26 man list from PFF two weeks ago...
ReplyDeleteThere are words around saying he wasnt invited. Rumours from early this year also said he quit the team. I didnt expect him to come at all.
ReplyDeleteRay Jonsson isn't a striker. He's a defender!
ReplyDeleteSo what? Have you seen his skills? He can play midfielder and with his level he can play striker.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean "so what"? Players should be playing their primary/best position, and if Jonsson is a defender, he should be played as such.
ReplyDeleteAnd have YOU seen his skills? Or are you saying that based only from that very short Youtube clip of him setting up that one goal?
You also need to remember that the national team is poor defensively, so with the experience that Jonsson has, all the more it is a need for him to be playing as a defender. And based on his height at 1.75m, it's most likely that he's a fullback and once again, he should be played as such.
The defense is better now that Rob Gier is playing. He is a quality defender who used to play for Wimbledon in championship level. It tells that this guy has football in him. As for "so what". So what? Tim Cahill, the Everton player is a midfielder but plays striker also. Steven Gerrard is a midfielder but has played striker also. Should i continue? Back in the mid 90s you had Campos or something from Mexico. The goalie with colorful jerseys. Guess what? He played striker as well and he wasnt bad at all. Who says Ray should be placed in the back four if he can contribute with a lot upfront instead? I personally mean that the squad has a good defensive line and if Ray can contribute upfront then he should. We should look at the options. Did you know that Aly Borromeo also has played upfront? Guess what. He isnt that bad either.
ReplyDeleteIve followed the national team for years. If you did, you would know that defense isnt the main problem. Defensively they are ok. If you didnt notice, is that they have lacked a good striker who can hammer in goals for the team. We got Phil Y. He was good when he played years ago, but then he quit. No one ever managed to replace him, Chad Gould wasnt even close, and Ian Araneta never gets close to his potential. Im delighted that Phil is back, and if Ray can accompany him and play well, then the opponents should really watch out. One shouldnt have to watch a bunch of videos to determine if a player has talent. I think his records speaks for itself. His team would probably beat the RP team easily. Even my former team could beat the Philippines.
Who cares about height. I dont give a damn about height. Look at Messi. Tiny player who terrorize opponents and gets a lot of beating.
What the team really lacks is a good quality goalie. The ones they have now arent that good.
You make it sound like players such as Gerrard, Cahill, etc. play out of position as a striker/support striker on a regular basis which isn't the case. They've filled in every now and again when needed due to injuries/suspensions/etc. At the same time, you also make it seem as if Rob Gier alone makes the defense solid, which again isn't the case more so since he's a RB not a CB. You also say u believe that the squad already has a good defensive line.... I'm guessing you say that because you mentioned that Gier is in the squad? It's a false belief as one player alone doesn't make a defensive line solid especially when they play out wide. If it's one person that I would point out to say that they make the defense solid its Aly it's also why he was converted to a CB for the national team, to provide more of a presence at the back. And yes, I know he played up front before and I also know that Gier played for Wimbledon. Don't keep pointing out little facts like that to me as if I've never followed national team before. You're not the only one who's followed the national team for years, FFS!
ReplyDeleteAnother thing, you only say that they're "OK" defensively, which is true since over the last few years they've improved a bit. However, at international level, being "OK" still isn't good enough. Being "OK" has also led them to concede a lot of cheap goals.
Even if Jonsson plays up front, it's not certain he's gonna score a bunch of goals. If you actually look at his club statistics or from the little that can be found, he doesn't have a track record of scoring goals, it's not gonna change especially at international level more so since he's past his prime already, being 31 yrs. old.
I didn't mention his height in contrast to anything. I mentioned his height because I'm not exactly certain of which position at the back he plays, CB or FB. But him being only 5'9 made me think he's a FB not a CB. Therefore, he can still contribute offensively while still being a defender as FB's still need to get forward to provide width, the occasional cross or just be that extra man out wide.
And why bring up Messi?? He's got all the talent in the world even if he's a tiny guy and you're comparing him to Filipino players who are also tiny for the most part?? Ridiculous!
Well at least the GK situation is where we could agree on strongly. The ones we have aren't just "not good", they suck and lack height. And this is a position where height does matter. Sacapano is only 5'8, while Camcam may be 5'11 or 6'0, but he only turned 16 yrs. old the other day and lacks experience. He also couldn't even hold down a regular starting spot for the Philippine U16's last year which suggests he isn't that good to begin with despite his good height for his age.
ok ok i am sick n tired of hearing people bagging Chad Gould here. for your information Chad Gould is the 2nd best scorer of the national team and he will surely be missed!
ReplyDeleteand about 'so what', mate... jonsson is a fullback so he should play at the back and strengthen our defense. phil younghusband, ian araneta can take care of the scoring.
Booblehead
to anonymous - Camcam was subbed after 12 minutes when he started. dont know if its injury but word is he wasnt that good.
ReplyDeleteBooblehead
Is Ray Jonsson already with the team? According to his club's website, he flew to last Tuesday. Here's the link, http://www.umfg.is/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=21&Itemid=128
ReplyDeleteI would still prefer Chad Gould over Ian Araneta. It's not true that he's unfit. As a matter of fact, he just played for England's beach soccer team in Portugal last August. And besides, he is one of our most consistent goal scorers. As for Ian, he has poor football IQ. His body is there but his brain is somewhat lost.
Camcam was subbed after 34 minutes not 12, when started his first game. And yes, I would say it's down to him being shyte rather than being injured and that is why I am shocked to say the least at why he's part of the full national team setup.
ReplyDeleteBeing fit in beach soccer doesn't translate to being fit and ready for a proper 11-a-side match. But ya, I agree, I'd take Gould over Araneta any day of the week. Araneta has been a full international since 2002 and only has 1 goal to his name. Even a winger who is also much smaller than him (Caligdong) has more goals and knows more what he's doing.
Who ever said that Chad Gould is unfit? That is not the case. He has been playing tournaments all over Europe the past months. All though its beach soccer, its still playing footie and fit.
ReplyDeleteAs for Cahill. Follow PL will you. He regularly plays striker even if he is a midfielder. Look at todays game against Taiwan U21/23. Aly Borromeo will on top.
IF WE HAVE GOOD PLAYERS THAT WORK WELL TOGETHER IN DEFENSE THEN RAY CAN PLAY UPFRONT OR AS A WINGER IF NEEDED, SPECIALLY IF HE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHERS.
Wake up people. You think so much of the national team when you say he should be placed in defense, when the goalscoring is our main problem and goalies.
Ian Araneta is actually a good player, but has really failed on the international scene. But to say that Caligdong knows more what hes doing is totally bull. Caligdong isnt that impressive. If all the fil-foreigners were available he would be on the bench. Have you people seen Ian Araneta play? Ive seen him play several times, and ive seen him play along with Chad Gould. Guess what? He was all over the place, attacking, creating a lot of scoring opportunities. Id say he is on par with Chad. He might be better on some things also, like speed.
And for "so what" matey mate bla bla. Being 31 doesnt necessarily mean that he is over his prime. Many players can go on for many years. And for Ray, well, let me put it this way. Even if he is 31, still none of the LOCAL players are even up to his standards. So if i were you id shut up and let him show what he is good for.
Dude, dont bash me for bringing up Messi. You knew what was coming when you mentioned height. Yeah Messi is talented, but it doesnt mean that Ray doesnt have coz he doesnt play for Barca or whatnot. He is playing in a top league who have a big track record of exporting players all over Europe.
And yes Camcam sucks according to sources. There are better goalies in the Philippines, but thanks to the crappy sitaution and schools not being free minded, the better players has to stay home. Sacapano has been in the game for a long time, but there are goalies in the country that are better than him.
And the national team didnt approve "a bit". They have improved huge the last 5 years. It started with the SEA games 2005 on homefield, and after that its been better and better except for when Cutillas took charge a short period and when Caslib took over for a tournament. But thats the PFFs fault. From being the whipping boys of Asia, we can now actually put up a big fight against the better teams.
I still think the defensive line is good enough against the nations we are going to face. So i still mean that Ray can play upfront or as a winger in those games. But when we qualify we should have him in defense coz the opponents will be of another caliber.
Over and out.
let ray play in midfield just in front of the defenders. he can run up to attack when the opportunity comes up. and be there on defense when things get nasty.
ReplyDeleteBooblehead
Read my post and understand it first you idiot!!!!! I never said he was unfit... I said playing beach soccer doesn't translate to being fit... he could be fit for all I know but it doesn't mean he is, especially when he has to make the switch to a full 11 a side match!!
ReplyDeleteGoal scoring is the main problem?? You can say it's the problem all you want but if the team is conceding goals on a regular basis then it's still useless! Even you should know with the way you're posting that you think you practically know it all, that the foundation of any team is having a good defensive setup. So you tell me, who the fuck do you propose to put upfront to to solve this goal scoring problem?? Jonsson?? BS!
I never said Caligdong was impressive in general, I said he was more impressive in contrast to Araneta! Once again read and understand my post before you reply FFS!! And how the hell can you compare Gould with Araneta?? They're two players with different styles!
For the third time, read and understand my post first before you fucking reply! Where the hell did I say that Jonsson's career is finished or he won't be able to contribute anything!?? I stated that he was 31 because he IS past his prime especially when you bill him as an attacking player. No doubt he would still be able to contribute to the national team, there's no denying that but he won't be able to contribute as much as could have if he was say in his mid twenties. And yes, him being a pro footballer alone makes him one step ahead of the local players at the very least.
I knew what was coming?? Ya I did, you're right.... I knew more BS was gonna come from you! I never said Jonsson wasn't talented, it's just that you seriously can't compare
Hah! It started in 2005?? So you haven't been following the national team as much I thought you have. The national team's improvement started in 2004 during the Tiger Cup, not the SEA Games in '05! At the same time, the SEA Games was for U23's, so you can't really use that to prove the full national team's improvement. Also, the Philippines hasn't played any of the stronger nations in Asia in a long time. The likes of Japan, China or any of the western Asian teams. So you can't really say they've improved a lot until they get a tested against one of those stronger nations, that's why I say they've only improved "a bit".
You thinking that Jonsson could play upfront is also poor mentality from you. You are underestimating other nations that the Philippines are supposedly are at the same level, like Cambodia or Laos. He should just stay as a fullback and like I said, I don't think he's gonna much goals anyway so why play him upfront or in a more attacking position?
Over and out. lol!
What is the reason as to why Chad Gould has been dropped from the Phil. squad? He has always been a quality and a productive player for the squad.
ReplyDeleteIn hindsight, the debate above of using Ray Jonsson as a striker or not is hilarious, along with calling Caligdong unimpressive. One of the clowns above resorted to name-calling!
ReplyDeleteThis exchange was just months before the official boom and success of PH futbol, a far cry from the terrible 0-5 loss last March 26 versus Iraq
