now this becomes interesting. RP will have to dump Macau by a lot of goals. HK could still lose to Taiwan, so the results might just be decided in the last day of the tournament on goal difference
You may hat Paul but he does have a point! The Philippines has only defeated Taiwan once and that was back in 1971!
So saying that the Philippines should defeat Taiwan quite easily, then a) you're underestimating Taiwan and b) you're misinformed!
You also need to realize that their players are semi-pro. Out of the players that the Philippines has at this tournament, only De Jong is fully pro and then Jonsson and Gier are semi-pro. Everyone else is amateur with a bunch of newbies to the team.
We got a bunch of players with experience from higher levels. Allthough the Y. brothers havent played for quite sometime, they still are better than the local guys. We have Ray who plays pro on Iceland, and Gier who was good years ago and is still good. And not to mention Borromeo and Del Rosario. With that team we should be able to beat Taiwan. But we dont know the lineup, and that can have something to do with it also. And youre right, there are a few newbies, but most of the squad has been in the game for a long time and also played for the national team for a long time.
Btw, i never said we should beat Taiwan easily. I said we are good enough to beat them. There is a difference right there.
As to hating Paul. Well, yeah. The guy is a huge fraud and impostor.
My personal view is that we could do better than this.
add the other greatwich brothers and stefan schrock to that list and we are talking about a good team. jonsson is actually in the squad but cant play at the moment coz of passport issues.
Say that the team SHOULD beat Taiwan doesn't translate to them actually beating them. This brings me back to my initial post, the Philippines hasn't defeated Taiwan since 1971, the first and only the Philippines has defeated them. History is not on the Philippines' side and you can't underestimate Taiwan no matter what team they put out or what team the Philippines team puts out.
Also, Icelandic football as a whole isn't fully pro, therefore Ray Jonsson isn't fully pro. And you can't count him right now because he's ineligible for this tournament.
does he make a living of playing football? if he does, then he is a professional footballer. and yes i remember he isnt eligible. i already posted that. so what if history is against philippines? doesnt mean we cant beat them. even the HK side said they were suprised to see philippines so strong.
If you make a living being an athlete, it doesn't automatically make you fully professional.
I never said that the Philippines couldn't. My point is, you're making it seem as if it's actually easier than it really is for the Philippines to beat them just because of certain players the Philippines has. Therefore, you are underestimating Chinese Taipei.
It's irrelevant what the HK team said more so since the Philippines couldn't even defeat Chinese Taipei.
