PFF to replace Martinez next month !

The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) is expected to have a new president next month.

Richard Montayre, Cebu Football Association (CFA) president, confirmed that the group will be having its new president by November when an “emergency” election will be held during the PFF Congress to replace Jose Mari Martinez, who has been accused of squandering the federation's funds in unathorized loans and investments.

The PFF Board of Governors comprised of 12 football association (FA) presidents or general secretaries coming from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao have asked Martinez to submit his irrevocable resignation last Monday in a board meeting last Sept. 25 in Manila. This came after after Martinez was not able to explain financial transactions he entered without the Board's approval.

The PFF Board of Governors is comprised of Luzon's Leopoldo Arnaiz (Baguio FA), Glenn Caritativo (Tarlac FA), Juan Luis Carpio (Naga FA), Jose Reneva (CamSur FA); Visayas' Mariano “Nonong” Araneta (Iloilo FA), Montayre, Carlos Cojuangco (Negros Occidental FA), Dick Emperado (Negros Oriental FA) and Mindanao's Rene Cosmod (DAVAO FA), Ramon Manlunas (Bukidnon FA), Flaviano Fucoy (Pagadian FA) and M'Lang Mayor Pinol (Cotabato FA).

Among the unexplained transactions of Martinez included a P1.5 million and another $10,000 to Tsai Henry, a former executive vice president of the PFF.

The Board also questioned a P300,000 payment Martinez made to Gworld, a promotions firm which allegedly has connections with his wife.

There were also allegations that Martinez had used the funding of the A27, an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) program for coaches which resulted to the coaches not receiving their salaries. The Board also found out that Martinez has bought shares of the Valle Verde Country Club.

They also questioned why he promised P20,000 subsidy to the 17 FA's in Mindanao in a summit he recently attended when this is not in the budget and was not brought up before the Board.

Cases are set to be filed against Martinez such as estafa and breach of contract.

Montayre said that the Board had a “gentlemen's agreement” with Martinez to allow him a graceful exit from the PFF via the resignation and in exchange all charges would be drop against him.

As of yesterday, the Board has not yet received Martinez's resignation letter which was due last Monday. With this, Montayre said they will pursue filing all the other cases against Martinez, who took over from Johnny Romuladez as PFF president in 2007 and would have served until 2011. /Correspondent Mars Alison

  1. Martinez getting replaced is a good start. But who will replace him? And will that person be different from Martinez or will it be the same BS all over again? Who knows!

It's just a massive shame to say the least in the case of Martinez as he was also a former Philippines international himself.

  5. dan palami, the mens' senior national team manager. he does not need the FIFA money to spearhead the team to intl games. the fact that he manage his company from scratch to what is now 1 of the best personnel services in the country means PFF will be easier for him.

  8. Just because Dan Palami is financing the national team(s) by himself out of his own pocket doesn't mean he'd make a great PFF president. Becoming PFF president isn't all about the national team, it would be about Philippine football as a whole.

  9. I agree. Just because he has cash to spend doesnt make him a good leader. We need a man with a plan (which shouldnt include enriching himself)

  11. i hope you can find a the right person to handle PFF . A person who has the Heart and the will to thrive for the Love of the Game. Stop the Politics. It is a shame how Power and Money Corrupts ... where is the loyalty ? none , only Motives and I hope it is a for a good cause and not Cost ... We have only one Flag to raise , not Luzon , Visayas or Mindanao but the Philippines.

  12. how cheap is the price of Loyalty and Integrity. People use people and it is a Fact , even the cleanest of clean has one single spot. We all make mistake and people who stand and admit to it with remorse ought to be forgiven. He is more of a man than the one who accuse and condemn without the purity of heart... Tell me one person who does not make a mistake for he has all the right to Cast the first stone...and Lead the men to a greater Path... Are there Any ??? NONE!!! YOU ARE NOT GOD, but I do hope you have One.

  13. stealing is a crime, leaking vital information is a crime , vote and Position buying is a crime , accepting the money for a vote or a position is a greater crime...What i cannot stand are people with double face ... You know who you are , I hope your conscience will not hunt you... It is like selling the Game to the opponent. Do you think you win in doing so , i don't think so, what i know is it makes you a lesser Man... PS.You could have ask for 1 million each or a position as general secretary which i think was already promised to one person , at least you have a higher price in selling your Integrity, not as cheap as fifty or I may say a few hundred thousand pesos.Don't worry PFF will payback your mentors, for this is just the beginning of the vicious cycle. Come to think of it,is this the people who will lead you ???

  14. your president shame is all PFF members shame. If you bring it out to the world FIFA might not release any fund at all until this is resolved. Who will suffer, the whole Federation itself. Do you think it is fair for everybody. You are fighting a wrong cause , resolve it by your own ,sit down and talk peacefully, if there are funds to be returned and appropriated , give it back to the federation. Take out people who receives salary who does not do anything but to suck vital information and corrupts others for the downfall and expense of the other. Beware of employees who cannot be trusted and double face, they will do the same thing to whoever sits there until they will reach their goal to be in the Top, if he ever reach there. Anyway...There is no other way to go when you reach the top but Down...
