THE Aboitiz Football Cup will soon conduct out-of-town games in the 38-Above division to make the tournament available to other areas in the Visayas.
Richard Montayre, president of the Cebu Football Association (CFA), said he came from Iloilo last week to discuss the holding of the tournament in the province.
The tournament is organized by the Aboitiz Group of Companies in partnership with the CFA. It has become the longest and biggest running football tournament in Cebu City.
Montayre said that this year, the 38-Above division will have games in four areas in the Visayas. Aside from Iloilo, games will also be played in Dumaguete, Bacolod and San Carlos City.
According to Montayre, Cagayan de Oro has also expressed interest as one of the venues. The CFA president said the arrangement is convenient because most of the teams playing in the 38-Above division come from other areas in the Visayas.
Montayre also revealed that this year's out-of-town games will serve as a dry run because next year, they will make the age-group divisions part of the games away from home.
