Green Archers Chieffy Caligdong meets former team Air Force for first time

Star winger Chieffy Caligdong faces his former team for the first time as Green Archers United Globe and Philippine Air Force aim to earn their first victory in their clash in the United Football League action Thursday at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill in Taguig.
Caligdong, who transferred to Green Archers early this year, meets Air Force, where he played for almost a decade, at 5:15 p.m.
Despite Caligdong’s move to his new team, Green Archers are yet to secure a victory after dropping its first three matches of the season.
Air Force also started its League campaign on a bad note, losing its first two matches to join Green Archers, Pasargad FC and Philippine Army as the only squads without a win at this stage of the competition.
Aside from Caligdong, striker Tating Pasilan, midfielder Arnie Pasinabo and goalkeeper Patrick Deyto are also expected to boost the Green Archers.
Veteran striker Ian Araneta, meanwhile, will lead Air Force in its search for its first victory of the season.
In the nightcap, the Loyola Meralco Sparks aim to continue its winning ways as it tangles with the struggling Pasargad at 7:30 p.m.
The Sparks look to nail their fourth straight victory to grab a share of the lead in the League table. Pasargad, meanwhile, looks to finally score their first triumph of the season after suffering three straight defeats at the start of its campaign.
AKTV will begin the live coverage at 5 p.m.

Reid back on the bench as Global faces Army

Global welcomes coach Brian Reid back on the sidelines as it battles Army at the Emperador Stadium on Tuesday.
Reid was out of the country last week and missed the last two matches of the reigning United Football League champions, who currently share top spot in the table with Stallion and Loyola Meralco.
In his absence, manager Dan Palami called the shots and got a terrific response from the side, producing its finest game yet in the 5-1 win over Green Archers Globe.
“I’m pleased to be back and that we had managed two victories (while I was away),” said Reid.
Izzo El-Habbib hopes to continue his fine form, after a brace against Green Archers.
Carli de Murga, Misagh Bahadoran and Jeff Christiaens are also in line for another start, after combining well on the left side in last week’s win, where Patrick Reichelt also scored his first goal of the season.
Val Kama, who picked up a knock and did not play in the second half against Archers, hopes to be ready for selection, even as Ben Starosta tries to continue his solid play at midfield alongside Yu Hoshide.
Reid hopes the improvement will continue against an Army side still looking for its first win of the season.
“I've been only here for five weeks, and there's still much to be done,” said Reid. I see improvement in the right direction. I always thought we can always get better, and we'll still work hard to do that.”
Army is just one of two teams that beat Global last season. Global absorbed a stunning 1-2 loss at Nomads field in their season-opener against Army last season, but ended the season unbeaten in their last 14 matches to capture their first league title.
“I look forward to the challenge and the improvement,” Reid said. “The players are certainly determined and up to the challenge.”

They will play a double round robin with the top two teams to advance to the final qualifying rounds on May 20 to 25 with the top two teams from Luzon and Mindanao with the winners to advance to the semifinals on May 27 to 28 and the finals on May 30 to 31, 2013 all in Cebu City.
Cyril Dofitas, Philippine Football Federation Secretary General and competition department head said that other teams in Luzon and Mindanao are having their own regional qualifying. In Luzon on April 8 to 13, 2013 at UP, Los Baños, Laguna with three teams and Mindanao on April 15 to 20, 2013 at Davao City.
Competing for Luzon are Masbate Football Association, Laguna Football Association and Baguio-Benguet Football Association.

PFF-Suzuki Cup Visayas Reg’l Qualifying Round set April 15

By Jerome S. Galunan Jr.
It’s all systems go for teams seeing action in the Philippine Football Federation-Suzuki Cup Visayas Regional Qualifying Round set to kick off on April 15-20, in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
Contingents
Football contingents include host Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA), Iloilo Football Association (IFA), and Cebu Football Association (CFA).
This was confirmed last Friday by Cyril Dofitas, head of the PFF Competition Department, during a press conference held at the San Julio Realty, San Carlos City and attended by Mayor Gerardo Valmayor, Jr.; Suzuki Philippines general manager Shuzo Hoshikura; Dick Emperado, chairman of the PFF Competitions Committee; Paulline Javelona, NOFA secretary-general; and John Carmona, San Carlos City Football Club secretary-general.
According to Dofitas, the decision of hosting the tournament in San Carlos is to provide a venue which is closer to the competing teams, yet can provide a good crowd.
“We don’t underestimate other areas, but we would like also to come up with the community involvement as requested by our major sponsor – the Suzuki. And, San Carlos is an ideal place for competition at the regular level,” he explained.
“In the finals, we will have Cebu being the center in the Visayas region, likewise, of the Luzon and Mindanao. Moreover, it was also considered the number of crowd as validated by the last Philippines-Singapore friendly,” he added.
Dofitas said in the regional matches, a double round-robin format shall apply with the top two teams advancing to the final qualifying round in Cebu on May 20-25.
During this round, the other top two teams from Luzon and Mindanao will be joining the cast of six squads which will be divided into two groups. The teams in each bracket will be playing in a double round-robin format to determine which top two teams from each group will advance in the semifinal matches, still in Cebu, on May 27-28.
In the semifinals, the top four squads will be playing in a home-and-away format while the top two teams after the semifinals will compete in the finals, still on a home-and-away format./

FEU Baby Tams rule UAAP for third time

By

FAR EASTERN University collected its second football title of the UAAP season by ruling the juniors tournament at the expense of Ateneo, 2-1, yesterday at Ateneo’s Moro Lorenzo field.
Audie Menzi struck what turned out to be the game-winner in the 74th minute as the Baby Tamaraws completed a comeback from a goal down to nail their third straight title.
The victory comes a day after the FEU women’s side bested La Salle, 2-0, to complete a sweep of the finals series.
Ateneo also took the men’s title Sunday with a sweep of University of the Philippines, ending a seven-year drought, and the Eaglets seemed poised to make it a double when Julian Vincent Roxas scored from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute.
But the response was immediate from FEU as Dave Doloso fired home three minutes later, setting the stage for Menzi’s heroics.
A beautifully struck free kick from Menzi, a defender, put the Baby Tamaraws in front for good. He was later named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
“We were strong defensively and we were more relaxed,” said FEU’s Korean coach Kim Chul-Su, who was given a victory ride by his players after the match.
Harold Alcoresa was named the Best Striker after scoring a season-best six goals while his teammate Dave Parac took the Best Goalkeeper plum, while Ateneo’s Jarvey Gayoso was named Rookie of the Year.

Davao City, Davao Norte win in Davraa Meet Football

Monday, February 25, 2013
HEAVY favorite Davao City and host Davao del Norte drew first blood in the pre-opening football games of the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2013 at Davao del Norte Sports and Cultural Center in Mankilam, Tagum City, Monday morning.
The Albert Ryan Lim-coached Davao City secondary boys football squad thrashed Davao del Sur, 5-1, behind the heroics of Yoshiraro Koizumi and Darius Diamante who made two goals each and Warren Ravanes who added one goal.
Ravanes, a student of Davao City National High School, started the ball rolling for Davao City in the 14th minute, 20 yards top of the penalty box.
Koizomi followed it up with a goal in the 18th as Diamante scored the third goal from a combination.
Ateneo de Davao University mainstays Koizumi and Diamante then netted the fourth and fifth goals, respectively.
Jacob Mahinay scored for Davao del Sur.
Coach Lim said they need to bring back the glory for Davao City having lost the Davraa title last year although the city was then represented by another set of players.
"Most of our players are Davraa and Palaro veterans with wide championship experience in the elementary level. We, however, need to work harder to achieve our goal," Lim said in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao.
The team is also composed of Javier Romero-Salas, Joshua Jabile, Miguel Avanceña, George Pineda, Jonathan Lim, Lorenzo Magno, John Ray Lagura, Jake Ferolino, Leander Varquez, Joshua Valdez, Karl Ledesma and Jeffril Cabaral.
Lim's wards clash against Davao Oriental at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, then will play opposite Tagum City at 8 a.m. and Compostela Valley at 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Davao del Norte's secondary booters, meanwhile, hacked out a 4-1 victory over Mati City.
In the elementary division, Panabo City defeated Mati City, 4-1, while Tagum City blanked Davao Oriental, 3-0.
All teams will play the single elimination format where the top four teams will advance to the semi-finals en-route to the championship.
Games set late Monday evening pit Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) against Panabo City (secondary), Davao del Sur against Digos (elementary) and Comval against Davao Oriental (secondary).

San Carlos to host U23 regional finals

High-caliber football action returns to San Carlos City in Negros Occidental as the city will host the 2013 Philippine Football Federation Suzuki Cup Under 23 Visayas Qualifiers at San Julio Realty football pitch on April 15 to 19.

Set to join the regional finals are the three football associations in the Visayas -- Iloilo Football Association, Negros Occidental Football Association, and the Cebu Football Association.

The announcement of the regional finals was made during last Friday's press conference at the San Julio Realty Clubhouse in San Carlos attended by PFF Competitions department head Cyril Dofitas, Suzuki General Manager on Automobile Sales and Marketing division Shuzo Hoshikura, and San Carlos Mayor Gerardo Valmayor Jr.

Dofitas thanked the Suzuki for supporting the Philippine football, particularly the U23 category, saying it will be a big help in scouting players who will represent the country in the Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar later this year.

Valmayor, on the other hand, assured the PFF of the city's full support for the tournament.

Meanwhile, the PFF Festital of Football held over the weekend in San Carlos drew participation from four FAs in the Visayas area.

The teams, Iloilo FA, Cebu FA, Negros Occ. FA, and Negros Oriental FAs, played a single round robin match with a 30-minute time in each half. Each team was also asked to recommend six elite players from their squad for the skills test event.

Among those who witnessed the football fest were PFF officials including technical director Aris Caslib, and competitions committee head Dick Emperado. National Under 13 head coach Aye Faboroada was tasked to scout for young football talents during the event.*NAB
