THE UNIVERSITY of Southern Philippines (USPF) Alumni logged an impressive 11-2 rout of the DBUFC 1 in last Sunday's start of the Men's Cup in the 13th Aboitiz Football Cup held at the Aboitiz Sportsfield at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.
The DBUFC 1 was clearly no match for the USPF Alumni, who easily got past the former's defense with just eight minutes in the game via Harvey Quimgue's goal.
This was followed by the first of Rodney Gandionco's five goals in the 14th minute. The rest of his goals were made in the 22nd, 59th, 73rd and 90th minute of the ballgame.
Others who joined in the scoring spree for USPF Alumni were Archie Villa (24th, 33rd), Eduard Adlawan (79th) and John Casayan (68th).
Jonathan Sollo and Raul Nunez prevented the DBUFC 1 from getting blanked with goals in the 31st and 54th minutes of the match.
The game passed not without an incident after USPF Alumni's Miguel Villarosa was red carded in the 26th minute for violent conduct after he punched one of the players of DBUFC 1. Villarosa will miss one game as a punishment.
In the second game, DBUFC 1's sister team DBUFC 2 also bowed to Xantos FC, 2-5.
DBUFC 2 only found its rhythm nearing the end of the game with late goals from Roque Cabarubias (82nd) and Nilboy Bajarias (84th).
Those who found the back of the net for Xantos FC were Henderson Jay Campo (16th), Lloyd Golez (34th), Kenny Dumancas (62nd), Regin Mantilla (69th) and Jaime Ebreo (75th).
In the Girls 17, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) posted an astounding 7-1 win against St. Theresa's College (STC). In the Boys 14, Cebu International School (CIS) pocketed an easy 3-0 win after Anthony's FC of Dumaguete defaulted the match. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
