STALLION-Sta. Lucia pounced on the absence of two key PSG booters, scoring a 5-1 victory on Thursday night to solidify its hold of the lead in the United Football league at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Rufo Sanchez delivered as usual, Nathan Alquiros scored for the third straight game, while two Koreans also found the back of the net as the Stallions scored with ease as PSG starting goalkeeper Reza Ataei had been suspended for picking up a red card in their last game.
The Stallions became the first team to reach 30 points this season, while PSG, which also missed the services of suspended leading scorer Emmanuel Mbata, remained in sixth place.
“Reza wasn’t there so I wanted them to attack more towards the middle because the (PSG) goalkeeper being new, he was going to be a little bit conservative,” said Stallions coach Ernie Nierras, who returned to the team after missing its last game for attending a wedding in Boracay.
Lee Won Hyung drew first blood for the reigning UFL Cup champions as he scored 27 minutes into the game, before Sanchez doubled the lead eight minutes later.
After conceding a goal in the 40th minute to Emil Muncada, the Stallions continued their assault in the second half, with Kim Hyo Il scoring on a header off a Lee corner in the 73rd minute and Alquiros striking six minutes later as the Stallions continued to flaunt the rest of their offensive weapons.
Sanchez completed his brace after firing a long-range missile from the right side eight minutes before stoppage time for the Stallions, who were also missing two key players of their own in Lee Joo Young and skipper Balot Doctora.
“We now have thirteen people who have scored goals for our team, which is a good sign because we’re not just a one-dimensional team,” Nierras said.
