Global FC is set to have a busier yet smooth ride in May.
Apart from participating in the Asian Football Confederation President’s Cup and its regular United Football League action, the reigning UFL champions are also set to take part in the Singapore Cup, having been recently invited along with fellow UFL powerhouse Loyola Meralco.
Team owner Dan Palami sees no scheduling conflict in May as the two international tournaments are slated two weeks apart, with the President's Cup set from May 8 to 12 and the Singapore Cup tentatively slated in the last week of the same month.
Meanwhile, the final lineup of Global for the President’s Cup is set to be known in the next two days.
The UFL titlists are expected to submit their roster for the tournament, considered the club competition equivalent of the Challenge Cup, on or before the deadline on Friday.
With the tournament only allowing each team two foreigners in its lineup, Global, which has seven overseas-born booters in its fold, tapped three Filipinos in Jason de Jong, Ed Sacapaño, and Joshua Beloya the past few weeks.
Palami hinted he is already satisfied with the recent signings and is not looking to add any more locals.
“I think we have the lineup that we need. We just need to work on it more,” Palami said. “It’ll take some time for them to adapt to the system so we have one month, more or less, for them to do that.”
It remains to be seen who among the squad’s foreign standouts - Izzo El-Habib, Ange Guisso, skipper Yu Hoshide, Val Kama, Roland Sadia, Ben Starosta, and Delon Patrick Yao - will be left out for the tournament.
