'Rusty' Stallions much too good for Nomads

A RUSTY Stallion-Sta. Lucia side still proved too good for Nomads, 1-0, on Thursday night as it claimed solo second place in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Sloppy in the first half after coming off a two-week break, the Stallions leaned on a second-half goal from Joo Young Lee to clinch the victory that increased their points total to 21 points after eight games, moving them just a point behind defending champion Global.
Stallions coach Ernie Nierras refused to dwell on their loss to Global last time, a game that snapped their six-game win streak, but he was left to rue his squad's long layoff.
“Honestly, I think this is the worst game we played so far this year,” Nierras said. “We were slow from the get-go. We were very dry. It wasn’t the typical start we usually have. That’s what happens when you have a long layover.”
Finally regaining their bearings after the restart, the reigning UFL Cup champions registered 12 minutes into the second half when the Korean Lee found the back of the net.
Nomads tried to make a comeback as it resorted to physical plays that led to several yellow cards. Nomads remained in fourth place with 11 points after eight games.
“We got it going in the second half but it kind of got a little bit rough also,” Nierras said. “There were a lot of fouls.”
