PSG is slowly proving how potent the team is offensively, beating Philippine Army, 4-0, to revive its bid for a spot in the upper half of the Division 1 standings of the United Football League on Tuesday night at the Emperador Stadium.
Emmanuel Mbata registered a brace, while Jaham Taher and Younousse Yaogo chipped in a goal apiece for PSG, which solidified its hold of seventh spot with eight points in eight games.
Stuck at the bottom in the early part of the season, the Iranian-flavored squad is now within striking distance of fifth place after winning twice in three games with a draw in between.
The Troopers absorbed a sixth setback in eight games and remained in ninth place with four points.
“It was an important win. Hopefully with another win, we could be in fifth place,” PSG coach Esse Sedigh said.
PSG banked on a strong first half against the Troopers, with Taher finding the back of the net first 18 minutes into the game. Mbata doubled the lead 11 minutes later, before Yaogo sneaked another goal just before halftime.
Mbata completed his two-goal effort with another successful conversion nine minutes before the second-half stoppage time.
“If you take a look at our previous games, we control the game with ball possession. The only thing that was missing was finishing,” Sedigh explained. “You can see lately, it’s okay already.”
