ONE of Global’s local recruits is set to be put under the microscope on Tuesday when the defending champion kicks off its second-round campaign against PSG in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
With starting goalkeeper Roland Sadia out with a dislocated shoulder, Ed Sacapaño, who is on loan from Philippine Army, gets his first start for Global, which seeks to reclaim the lead in the 7:30 p.m. match.
Global, two points behind front-running Stallion, is coming off its first loss of the season, a 3-2 decision at the hands of a rejuvenated Kaya side last Thursday in a game where the Ivorian Sadia left early after his shoulder hit the post when he tried to save an attempt.
Sacapaño, in his first appearance for Global, also suffered a head injury only minutes after coming in, but labored through it the rest of the match.
“Medyo malaking tama, pero kinailangan ko lang i-gamble kasi first game ko sa Global,” said Sacapaño, whose injury needed seven stiches to close.
And the national team ‘keeper hopes to continue making a solid impression against PSG, which is in sixth place with 11 points.
“Yun talaga yung focus ko,” the 33-year-old Bago City, Negros Occidental native said.
Global official Rafa Garcia said that according to team coordinator Fonz Rojas, the squad is still waiting for the doctor’s advice as to how long the Sadia will be out.
The third-running Sparks, with 20 points to show, face an Army side that is in ninth place and only ahead of fellow military team Air Force in the standings.
