Azkals eye new foe after Vietnam declines invite

Karlo Sacamos

THE Philippine Football Federation is now looking for a new opponent for the Azkals after Vietnam declined the invitation for a friendly on June 8.
Team manager Dan Palami said Vietnam had to turn down the request as Southeast Asia’s top-ranked football squad will have a separate game three days after the proposed match date.
“It will be some other team and the PFF is looking at that already,” Palami said.
So far, only Hong Kong has confirmed its participation in a friendly on June 4 against the Azkals, who are coming off a successful Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup qualifiers stint last month.
The Azkals, who rose two places back to their all-time high of No. 143 in the latest Fifa rankings released on Thursday, are also slated to play in another friendly on Independence Day, possibly against a Middle-Eastern country.
