MANILA – Marisa Park scored a brace for the Philippines as the Malditas blanked Bangladesh in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers on Saturday.
The Wake Forest senior broke the ice for the Philippine women’s football team by scoring the team’s first goal in the 19th minute.
This was followed by Cristina delos Reyes’ header in the 30th and the strike by Cat Barnekow in the 85th.
Park struck again late in the game by escaping from Bangladesh’s defense for the Malditas’ fourth goal against the host team.
The victory, however, was not enough to catapult the girls to the main draw of the tournament, which takes place in 2014.
The Malditas finished second with 6 points on 9 goals, while Thailand topped Group B with 9 points on 14 goals.
The Pinays had a fantastic opening against Iran, blasting their Middle Eastern counterparts, 5-0.
But Thailand edged the Malditas in their next match, 1-0.
Iran settled for third place in Group B, while the host country ended up at fourth.
