GLOBAL FC fell short and dropped a painful 2-0 loss to a formidable Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) FC of Pakistan in the second day of the Group B elimination of the Asian Football Confederation President’s Cup last night at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Global, which beat Yeedzin, 5-0, in its opening match dropped to third place with three points, while Dordoi and KRL FC have four points each with a win and a draw.
However, Dordoi leads the group on goal difference after a 9-0 demolition of Yeedzin in the first game.
Global will take on Dordoi in its final match on Sunday and will have to beat the club from Kyrgyzstan to make it to the final stage. Only the top two teams in the group will advance to the final stage of AFC’s club competition for emerging nations in September.
The Filipino champion had a tentative start and KRL FC, which drew Dordoi in its opening game last Wednesday, had the first stab at goal but Moussa Sanogo was there to collect.
However, in the 12th minute, the Pakistani club caught Global’s defense napping and Mahmood Khan’s swerving corner sailed straight to the goal, while the Global defense was still checking for an open man.
“The boys really delivered. We have a commanding defense that really gave the game for us and our endurance was better,” said KRL head coach Tariq Lutfi.
The Pakistani club back line of Muhammad Shahid, Saddam Hussain, Samar Ishaq and Ahsan Ahsanullah was solid, forcing coach Brian Reid to make an early change, putting in Joshua Beloya for Denis Wolf in the 36th minute.
Global rarely had a chance in the first half and the closest they got was a Patrick Reichelt header in the 26th that sailed harmlessly past the goal.
“We had a better team, better ball possession and to lose that game was unbelievable.
Sometimes the best team loses and we sacrifice two mistakes,” said Global head coach Brian Reid.

ReplyDeletei support our NT with all our players abroad...as the best plers should play for the country...but hopefully they (UFL and PFF) finally learn the lesson of the president's cup with its rule just to incl. 2 foreigners. if they don't implement a limit for foreign players in the ufl then the clubs won't have any chance in the future in the 'official' afc sanctioned club competitions. and how can our talents develope if they don't get any chance to play when a ufl starting eleven almost consists of foreigners only? just imagine when Stallion becomes champion...they have so much foreigners (and just 11 pinoys) so they even won't be able to have a starting eleven with subs.
ReplyDeleteAre our abroad players superstars??
DeleteStupid.
Youth develooment is the key football success.
So palami and his project of sourcing reserve and non playing players have to go before actual progress kick in.
