UFL contender Loyola offer huge blow to title bid

The Loyola Meralco Sparks suffered a huge blow to their bid to win the title after being held to a 2-2 draw by Nomads FC in the United Football League Tuesday night at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill in Taguig.
Nomads held the first lead of the match courtesy of a Mikko Mabanag goal from an assist by Phil Connolly at the 28th minute.
But Jeong Byeong Yeol hit a goal at the 44th minute to tie the match at 1-1 before the halftime break.
Mark Hartmann then nailed a shot at the 46th minute to put Loyola ahead, 2-1, at the start of the second half.
Nomads quickly answered in the counterattack, as Connolly dished another assist to Bafio Magassa at the 48th minute to even the match at 2-2.
Both teams then engaged in a tight battle, seeking to score the game-winning goal. But the heavily-favored Loyola somehow let Nomads find scoring chances in the last 10 minutes of the match which, however, failed to hit the back of the net.
Hartmann had opportunities to break the deadlock, but his high-looping shot at the 91st minute and free kick at the 92nd minute missed the goal.
The Sparks improved to 33 points with a 10-3-2 win-draw-loss record, but the result dampened their bid for the League title. Loyola remained at third place behind leaders Stallion, which has 39 points, and Global FC, which has 34 points.
Loyola only has three matches left in its schedule, which means that the Sparks need Stallion and Global to drop some points for them to have a crack at the championship.
Meanwhile, Nomads stayed at eighth place with 3-4-8 card for 13 points.
