IT ALL ended in a shootout.
Failing to win in their respective divisions, three teams had to win it in penalty shootout after regulation to bag the championship crowns of the second Goshen Land Summer Cup at the Brent Baguio football field.
After edging Baguio United FC Clovers, 2-1, in the semis, the undefeated Nomads FC cruised to the finals of the ladies open while Benguet State University (BSU) blanked Brent, 1-0, to make it to the championship.
At the end of a scoreless regulation, Nomads FC had to win it via a shootout, 2-1 against BSU with most valuable player Mon Hannam leading the charge while goalie Agnes Seed won the best goal keeper plum of the tournament.
Brent International School, meanwhile, entered the semis of the 18 and under men's division with a 1-1-3 win-loss-draw record at the end of the one day tournament and faced Cordillera Goshenland Football Club (CGFC) A.
Brent also failed to win it in regulation and needed a shootout to enter the finals with a 4-3 drubbing of CGFC. In the other semis pairings, Baguio United Football Club, with a 2 win 2 draw record, also failed to win in regulation but nonetheless scored a 2-1 shootout after regulation to barrage in the finals.
Brent got the best of the shootout at the end of regulation and win 3-2 against a highly favored Baguio United squad as Paul Kim and Kurk Mariano, both from Brent won the most valuable player and best goal keeper award.
The 14 under division also went down to shootouts after Cordillera Goshenland FC and Taraki FC engaged each other at the close of the regulation for a 3-1 victory as Jason Escara and Wilbur Labador took home the MVP and best goal keeper award, respectively.
First touch defeated Tarlac FC to salvage third place honors while Cordillera Goshenland FC team B and BUFC Clovers placed third for the 14 and under division and the ladies open respectively.
Forty-nine teams from Baguio, Benguet, Makati, Paranaque, Tarlac, Olongapo, and nearby Nueva Vizcaya joined the tournament as a culminating activity of the Goshen Land Summer Football Clinic that drew 83 kids who enrolled in the two clinic modules.
The clinic is based on the FIFA grassroots approach conducted by CGFC coaches led by AFC licensed coach Aris Bocalan.
It is also part of Goshen Land's grassroots football program that is heavy on life coaching, counseling, and mentoring for character development among public school and underprivileged kids.
