Younghusband in search of Singapore Cup tonic after Sparks' UFL slip-up

By Karlo Sacamos

A Loyola Meralco side still reeling from two recent disappointing showings in the United Football League tries to move on in a different stage as it vies in the Singapore Cup on Sunday.
The Sparks, who lost to Kaya, 3-1, last week then settled for a 2-2 draw against lowly Nomads on Tuesday, are set to arrive in Singapore later in the day ahead of their match on Sunday against a young Harimau Muda side.
Sparks skipper James Younghusband admitted their last two games, which left a huge dent on their UFL title chances, failed to prepare them well for the invitational tournament.
But the Azkals mainstay is hoping the change in environment can make a difference as they hope to at least replicate their semifinal finish in their inaugural stint in Singapore last year.
“It’s not the best preparation,” Younghusband said. “But it will be a good environment for us being together as a team in the hotel to really prepare well off the field.”
Meanwhile, Green Archers United and PSG battle for solo sixth place in the UFL standings on Saturday at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
The two middle-tier teams, which take the field at 8:30 p.m., have identical 4-2-8 win-draw-loss records for a total of 14 points, with PSG only ahead on goal difference.
