The return of Phil and James Younghusband to the national team would have to wait due to scheduling difficulties caused by an earlier commitment – in a scenario that closely mirrored past incidents that led to their dropping from the squad during the Paulino Alcantara Peace Cup last month.
The Fil-British brothers have now been ruled out of the Philippines’ international friendly match against Bahrain on Friday in Manama, Bahrain.
Although they have already been released by their club Loyola Meralco Sparks for national team duty, the Younghusband brothers decided to schedule their departure later than what was suggested by the Philippine Football Federation which wanted them to leave Tuesday to give them ample time to aclimatize and train with the team.
But Cathy Rivilla, the Younghusband brothers’ business partner, said the brothers could not back out of a commitment to a corporate client which fell on the same day of the PFF’s suggested departure date.
Aside from their club football duties with Loyola Meralco, the Younghusbands also dabble in running a football school as well as product endorsements.
Rivilla said their commitment to a client was scheduled before they were recalled to the national side last week. Rivilla said backing out would also mean the Younghusband brothers taking a hit financially.
The brothers have openly declared their desire to return to the national team but wanted to leave for Bahrain only on Wednesday, less than 48 hours before the match.
In contrast, Loyola players Ref Cuaresma and Anto Gonzales immediately flew to Bahrain following the Sparks’ campaign in the RHB Singapore Cup last Sunday.
As a result of the scheduling difficulties, PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta said the federation decided it was best for Phil and James to fly straight to Kuwait this weekend in preparation for the friendly match against Kuwait on Oct. 16.
Notwithstanding the Younghusband brothers’ absence, the Azkals have an experienced side for the two matches in the Middle East, which forms part of their preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup.
The Azkals welcome goalkeeper Roland Muller, Juani Guirado, Jerry Lucena, Ray Jonsson, Dennis Cagara and Paul Mulders back in the side, whose core is coming off an impressive run in the Peace Cup.
Guirado hasn’t played since the AFC Challenge Cup in Nepal, where he scored his first international goal – against Palestine.
Jonsson is also playing his first game for the Azkals since March, while Lucena and Mulders are back after missing the Peace Cup last month.
“The most important thing for us is to have more games together,” said Azkals manager Dan Palami.
Defender Jason Sabio did not fly with the team to Bahrain due to a groin injury he aggravated in the Peace Cup, while Demitrius Omphroy is recovering from a stomach flu.

they have yet to prove their commitment to team and now theyre at it again
ReplyDeletehave yet to prove their commitment? lol!! stfu and read properly you dumb ass! and their commitment was never in doubt to begin with! it was all a misunderstanding & to a certain extent, sensationalist journalism!
Deleteive read the article properly u shallow minded die hard younghusband fan. i care more about the national more than these bros no matter how much theyve contributed to its progress. this is definitely not a good start for making up for their previous lacking. gives u a clue why the pff decided not to let them play bahrain.
DeleteSensational journalism? So you are saying that Cedelf Tupas, the UFL commentator is not realiable?
ReplyDeleteHIT while the iron is hot... hahaha

ReplyDelete1. Sasali ba sa National Team or Not,
2. Priority ba ng mga Younghusband ang National Team Yes or no lang
3. Interesado pa ba sila na mag laro pra sa national team ? Yes or no lang
4. May price bana hinihingi ang mga Younghusband para mag lalaro sa National Team ? Yes or no lang
5. Kung Meron, kaya bang ibigay ng PFF ? yes or no lang
In a sense, the YHs would not be famous if not for the NT, so why it cannot be discussed postponed.
ReplyDeleteWhat if the YHs played in Bahrain and won both matches with Bahrain and UAE. This would mean that their promotional level will be boosted.
Hindi ba sila nag-iisip?
It is very upsetting that their words are totally different from their actions.
Where is the commitment YHs?
Hindi pa sikat ang Pilipinas ang taas na nang lipad nila.

ReplyDeleteSo its ok for Denis Cagara to come day before game and start against Indonesia???????????? Talk about being fair!!!!
And just to clarify YH bros were told they were not involved in Bahrain and Kuwait game, just ask LMS! So surely they make plans if they're not called up to NT. Makes me laugh you guys always believe the PFF
Cagara plays in a competitive league hence there is no question on his fitness levels. And he came a day before the game because he was released by his club late (football reasons) and not because he had to attend a samsung event (non-football reason). the same goes for all filipino players coming from europe, india, or the US: they are fit, they have great training from their clubs, and they come to the camps/games later than the ones from the Phil because of FOOTBALL COMMITMENTS and not shoots or modeling nor waiting tables.
Deletethe list was released a week before and the news was of their call up was even posted online. and they knew there was a FIFA friendly coming, if they wanted really to join and be back in the NT, they would at least show their willingness by not scheduling a meeting/shoot/whatever 2 days before a FIFA int friendly date. they are professionals, aren't they?
Those hotheads annoyed at the YH bros should realise that these Gulf games are nothing more than another foreign training trip.
ReplyDeleteReal national team players have far too many club commitments to enjoy such superfluousness. They turn up for internationals only days before a game unless it's off-season or important stuff like Regional or World Cup qualifiers. Even then, virtually all training is done in the home country.
Someday PHI will have a genuine national league
with genuinely talented homegrown players - earning liveable wages - fighting for places on the NT. Until then moan about the lack of domestic facilities and rural grassroots support, not the non-attendance of Fil-fors.
real national teams? you mean like spain or italy, or maybe even ksa? i think they have the luxury of meeting each other days before a match because they have good PROFESSIONAL players already. good players playing in good leagues.
Deletethe PHL needs these camps simply because we need them. it showed in the recent peace cup how fluid and fit the play and the players were. that came from the chicago camp and the sea tour.
we can't train as much here in our home country because we don't have any credible teams to tune up with. the ufl is not yet at the level where it can sustain the fitness and technical ability of our players. we have to go out.
CAgara is a full time professional player while the yhs are not; Cagara is plying his trade in Europe while the yhs are playing here in UFL (semi-pro daw?)...
ReplyDeleteEventhough the yhs are ex-chelsea players keyword here is FITNESS LEVEL
A 75% or even 50% fit Phil Younghusband is still better than a 100% Ian Araenta!!
DeleteSame thing for James, when to compared some of the dross that continuously gets called up like Gener and Margarse!
Aanhin mo ang 50% phil mo kung hindi naman nila priority maglaro para sa national team?
DeletePriority or not or whatever, that's not the point! Point is, we're missing out on one of our better players! And to a certain extent, it's a disgrace!
Deletethe point here is commitment! aanhin mo ang talented player kung hindi naman marunong rumespeto sa national team? kung hindi dahil sa team, wala sana silang corporate clients to attend to right now in the first place
Deletei'd rather have a 100% araneta than a 50 or 70% phil. araneta shows he is willing to work for the team. a 50% phil shows selfishness and individualism. TEAMWORK works people. we see it in barcelona and spain nt. VICA BARCA!
Delete100% Araneta that will only trip by himself at every scoring opportunity? We might as well play with 10 men.
Delete@ Anonymous 11 October 2012 17:40
DeleteYou're so wrapped up in this "not committed" idea that you're being blinded! Yes, it's frustrating and disappointing that the brothers have other things to attend to but that doesn't mean they're not committed or they're disrespecting the national team! That's flat out idiocy ignorance!
I'm assuming you're somewhat new to following the national team or even football? Because if you weren't, you'd know that the YH brothers already had a lot of corporate clients or whatever else before the success of the national team in 2010! Once again, IGNORANCE!
@ Anonymous 11 October 2012 20:56
Right... and you think the Philippines MNT is anywhere near the level of a team like Barcelona? Or the Philippines has players at the level of Spain's MNT? LOL!!! Yes, you're right, team work... but that counts for jack shit when you have players like Araneta running around tripping over himself and can't hit a barn door to save his life! And you don't think a player like Phil doesn't work for the team?!? Talk about being blind! But hey, if Araneta floats your boat, more power to you! lol!
