BAGUIO City Football Association (BCFA) racked up their second victory to stay unbeaten after two games the Smart Club National Championship – Luzon Cluster at the Benguet State University football pitch.
Host BCFA scored a 2-0 win against winless Mindoro in a temper flaring game Thursday morning that saw one Baguio booter being given the red card and sent off in the second half.
Joseph Lingwayon scored his fourth goal in the tournament backed by telecommunications giant Smart in cooperation with the Philippine Football Association while Reycart Neri added the second goal for Baguio in the six team competition.
Lingwayon’s fourth goal came after his hat trick in the opening game of the Luzon cluster Wednesday morning.
“This was more physical and intense game where tempers flared with one Baguio player sent off in the second half,” said Homer Alinsug of the Baguio United FC backed BCFA squad.
“But with just ten players, the team was able to hold on to the lead and win the game with a clean sheet,” added Alinsug.
Arvin Ogbinar will be suspended into today’s game against Cavite which is set to be played at 10:30 a.m. and he will be a big loss to the team, according to Alinsug.
“Ogbinar is the central defensive midfielder and plays an integral part of our defensive and offensive formation. Other players should step-up,” said Alinsug.
BCFA hopes to win their third assignment to at least advance in the quarterfinal round along with the top 10 teams participating in the UFL Cup.
Earlier, Tarlac bounced back from a 1-4 defeat over home team Baguio with a 6-0 drubbing of Laguna in the morning games while Cavite and Rizal was still squaring off in the afternoon games as of this writing.
