Global held to shock Cup draw

Guest team General Trias International shockingly held Global FC to a nil-nil draw in United Football League Cup group action Sunday at The Fields at Nuvali in Laguna.
General Trias, which is entirely composed of South Korean players, surprised Azkals-led Global to gain its fourth point in Group A and stay ahead of the defending League champion in in goal differential.
Philippine Army Fritz & Macziol pulled off a 2-0 upset against Penson Stallion Giligan’s to kick off the action in Group D.
Ricardo Becite scored at the 37th minute, while Luisito Brillantes hit the net at the 44th minute to overcome Stallion, which got a boost in the offseason after signing Azkals mainstay Jason de Jong and Spanish players Rufo Sanchez and Joaco Canas.
In the other Group D game, Philippine Air Force Phoenix downed Agila FC, 2-0, to tie Army on top of the standings with three points.
Veteran Yanti Barsales slotted a goal at the 14th minute, while Randy Bela-Ong scored at the 84th minute to give the Air Force the victory.
Newly-promoted Pachanga, meanwhile, breezed through Mendiola FC, 3-0, to start its Cup campaign.
Ariel Zerrudo hit the net at the 37th and the 90th minute, while Jason Cunliffe converted a penalty kick at the 71st minute to carry the Red Phoenix on top of the Group C ladder.
In the other matches, Nate Burkey scored all of Kaya’s goals en route to a 2-0 triumph against Forza FC in Group B action, while Nomads Auction Manila edged Laos FC, 1-0, to tie Pachanga in Group C.
