The Ceres-La Salle XI is up to represent the province of Negros Occidental in the forthcoming Smart Club Championship-Visayas Elimination slated November 7-12, in Dumaguete City.
This team will be bannered by varsity players mostly from the University of St. La Salle and several selected players whose names are yet to be revealed.
“We will announce our complete line-up when everything is finalized,” Ceres-La Salle assistant coach Ramon Janeo told Watchmen Daily Journal yesterday.
“We are currently holding our rigid training at the Ayala North pitch in preparation for this tournament,” he added.
Ceres-La Salle’s intention to take another step into competitive football came after years of successful stints in local football tournaments.
The tournament will also serve as a qualifying process of teams which have plans to join the country’s premier football league – the United Football League (UFL), Janeo said.
“If we qualify in the Top 2 of the Visayas Eliminations, then we will advance to the next stage which is the Round of 16,” Janeo said.
The Ceres-La Salle FC is expected to battle Visayas rivals Cebu, Leyte, Iloilo and host-Negros Oriental.
Janeo said if Ceres-La Salle FC plays good game in the tournament, the squad will earn a slot in UFL’s Division 2.
Ceres-La Salle will be managed by the Yanson siblings, Ricky and Leo Rey./
