BAGUIO City yielded to a much organized Cavite side and tasted its first defeat after two victories in the ongoing Smart Club National Championship–Luzon Cluster at the Benguet State University football pitch.
Cavite Football Association struck a 3-1 victory over Baguio City FA and stayed unscathed after three games and scored a 1-1 draw on Thursday against Rizal. The team has already clinched the number seeding going into the last two days of competition.
Kingsley Ezeori opened the scoring for the Cavite booters in the 8-minute mark of the ball game which ended the first half at 1-0 count.
Cavite struck another goal courtesy of Alvin Obero in the 60-minute mark to put the visiting team on top by two goals.
Baguio’s first goal finally came through after Muhammad Farah struck in the 67-minute mark but Cavite punctuated another goal in the 67-minute mark courtesy of Jun Mojado.
“It was a tough loss for us because we have to shuffle the team kasi nga wala si Arvin Ogbinar who plays central defensive midfielder and plays an integral part of our defensive and offensive formation,” said Homer Alinsug of the Baguio United FC backed BCFA.
Baguio actually controlled the tempo of the ball game and even had better opportunity in scoring goals in different occasions but Cavite countered in the defense against the taller Summer Capital bets in the tournament backed by telecommunications giant Smart in cooperation with the Philippine Football Association.
The Summer Capital had six shots on goal with only one getting past Cavite’s goal while the visiting team had five chances with three going inside the goal line.
“We controlled the tempo of the ball game, we were a bit taller, we fought hard but they had the better finish,” added Alinsug.
Despite the loss, Alinsug still remains upbeat on their chances when they face Laguna at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the winner advancing to quarterfinal round along with the top 10 teams participating in the UFL Cup.
“With Arivn Ogbinar returning, we will surely be playing our usual game,” added Alinsug.
