Karl Decena, InterAKTV ·

The new season of the United Football League kicks off Tuesday, with a pair of games starting the UFL Cup competition at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Defending League champion Global battles new-look Pasargad in Group A play at 5 p.m., while Kaya clashes with Green Archers United Globe in Group B tiff at 7 p.m.
Both games will be aired live on AKTV.
Having one of the deepest squads in the league, Global is one of the contenders for this season, boasting a number of former and current national team players. It will be led by Fil-Spanish Carli de Murga, who last season won the Golden Ball trophy, the league’s equivalent to the Most Valuable Player award.
New additions such as Azkals members Demitrius Omphroy, Matthew Uy and Denis Wolf, who bagged Most Valuable Player honors in the recently concluded Philippine Football Peace Cup, also boosted Global’s campaign this season.
Meanwhile, Pasargad parades its 15 new acquisitions led by highly-touted Fil-Am teenager Josh Boone, who led his high school team to multiple championships in the United States.
After settling for a runner-up finish in League play, Kaya also aims to vie for the Cup title, retaining the core of its team from last season. A healthy Aly Borromeo, also the national team skipper, is expected to return for the squad, which will still be anchored by African import Eric Dagroh.
Green Archers United, meanwhile, looks to bounce back from an eight-place finish in League play last season after adding Ghanian Ayi Nii Aryee from Global.
The UFL Cup features 20 teams which are divided into four groups. The top two squads from each bracket after playing in a round-robin format advance to the knockout stages.

AKTV will air two UFL matches every Tuesday starting at 5 p.m.
