MANILA (18 Oct 2011) – The Philippines national Under-23 camp will be heading to Japan for their final camp on 23-31 October 2011 ahead of the SEA Games in Indonesia early next month.
Following the runners-up spot win for the Philippines senior team at the Long Teng Cup in Chinese Taipei earlier this month, the focus has now shifted to the U23 side chasing their first ever podium finish.
“There’s really no time to rest. We have to resume training with more intensity for the U23,” said Weiss.
“With the senior team having the Long Teng Cup, the U23 is a little bit behind. Hopefully, we can catch up in the Japan camp.”
The camp in Japan will be held in Gotemba – the same venue when the Philippines prepared for the AFC Challenge Cup playoff match against Mongolia.
Other than training alone, the Philippines will also be looking to play against ‘strong Japanese university teams’.
Among the players for the Philippines squad are Fil-Dutch Azkal Jason de Jong (pix), Fil-German Manuel Ott, Neckson Leonora, Raymark Fernandez, David Basa and Joshua Beloya.
“I think we can field an interesting squad to the SEA Games,” said Weiss. “We hope we can connect very well together in Japan and go from there to Indonesia.”
