Cebu Queen City eyes 1st win

By Mike T. Limpag

CEBU Queen City United will gun for its first win while Stallions FC fights for survival in today’s UFL Cup Group C matches at the Rizal Memorial Sports Stadium.

After losing to Global FC, 3-0, in last week’s match, Cebu Queen City is the only winless team left in the group.

Today’s match will be aired live on AKTV at 2 p.m. and will be followed by the Philippine Navy vs. Philippine Air Force match at 4 p.m.

Global FC leads the group on goal difference with three points on a win and a loss, while Pachanga, which beat the Stallions, 2-0, is second. The Stallions are third owing to their opening day win over Global, 3-2.

Global FC and Pachanga will face tomorrow, while Cebu and Pachanga will face each other next week since their opening day game was cancelled.

A win by Cebu over the Stallions will boost its bid to make the quarterfinal round of the UFL Cup, while a loss means it must win its final group match against Pachanga and wait for the results in the other groups.

The top two teams in the seven four-team groups advance to the knockout stage along with two of the best third-ranked teams.

The team will be again bank on team captain John Michael Flores, who is nursing a yellow card, SPO2 Alex Boanghog on goal, and Junard Aguilar and Rene Menchavez on offense.

Meanwhile, Kaya FC is the first team to book a seat to the quarterfinal round after routing Schwarz, 5-0, last Wednesday with Nate Burkey slotting in four goals.

Burkey, who had a hat trick in Kaya’s 3-2 win over Diliman last week, now shares the top spot of the goal scoring tally with Phil Younghusband, who had seven in the Meralco Sparks 15-1 demolition of the Socceroos.

Aside from Global vs. Pachanga, the other games tomorrow are Dolphins vs. Green Archers, ABC Stars vs. Kaya Cignal, Manhur vs. Philippine ARmy, Schwarz vs. Diliman Victory, Agila vs. Socceroo, Baguio vs. Nomads, Internacionale vs. Loyola, Manila All Japan vs. Laos and Forza vs. Pasargad.

  6. Not to take away from Stallions FC because they played really great, but Queen City United was also unlucky with their shots. They could have at least scored 2 in that game. I hope this will not discourage our Cebuano friends, but will make them strive more.

  7. =thumbs UP for Stallions!why did they underestimated the stallions?its the football capital of the phils home for some local Azkals and future Azkals.no more excuses!what i can say for you is this is you want to improve football in cebu follow FIFA rules 45 mins of Running and only 3 or 4 substitutes,in that case your players will improve.in cebu tournament is just bout 10 mins for the 1st half and multiple substitutions... and with that skill?do you have the guts to says that you can beat?ilonggos?theyve been running since birth for 45 mins.so how can you cathc up with them.based on the gameplay cebu cant run!!!!missed some easy shots?unlucky?i dont think so if theres no keeper well its a score but theres a good keeper.well a GOAL is a GOAL a Miss is a Miss..thats what you call football.no RACISMS.dnt underestimate ur opponent just play..DONT TALK too much....
