Comebacking striker delivers for Pachanga

OSSEYNOU Diop made a rousing return from injury to lift Pachanga-Diliman to a 3-2 victory over PSG on Saturday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
In his first game back after being sidelined for almost a month due to a groin injury, the 19-year-old Senegalese striker fired a brace early in the first half that proved enough to weather a PSG fightback in the untelevised match.
With the win, the 2012 Division 2 champions continued to impress under the radar in their maiden top flight campaign as they moved past Kaya for solo fourth place.
“Ngayon nakuha na namin ang solo fourth, ang kailangan na lang namin gawin ngayon is to maintain,” Pachanga coach Noel Marcaida said. “Kung ano yung mga game ng Kaya na na-draw, kailangan namin kunin (at panalunin) yung mga game namin.”
“Hindi naman sa amin ganun ka-importante na televised yung games,” the rookie mentor added of his team’s situation. “Ang imporante is kung ano ang magiging result ng game. Sana magbago rin siya, but the priority is to win the games.”
Diop, who missed Pachanga’s last four games, seemed to hardly skip a beat as he went to work early and converted two successful attempts within the first 23 minutes of the game.
An own goal from PSG tripled the lead for Pachanga, before the former attempted a rally, starting with a goal four minutes before first-half stoppage time from returning top striker Emmanuel Mbata.
But Pachanga’s cushion proved too big to overcome as Promise Jolomi’s 90th-minute goal for PSG was insufficient.
PSG suffered its third straight loss and remained in seventh place with 11 markers.
“I just tried. It was not easy because they played very good,” Diop said. “They let me (have) the opportunity but after that they closed the defense. That’s why we turned to defending. We were lucky to win that game.”
