QUEEN City United nabbed its tenth win in the second division of the United Football League over Socceroo, 4-3, at artificial turf in Bonifacio Global Field.
It is the second straight win of the squad in the second round after a slow start with a loss against Pachanga, 4-0, and a 1-1 draw against Manila All-Japans. The team beat Lions Meltique, 7-0, last week.
But the win didn’t come easy for QCU as Socceroo did a good job defending them.
“It was a tight match, they have three to four Brazilian players who played well,” said head coach Mario Ceniza.
QCU scored in the first 20 minutes of the game through Jan Michael Flores but Socceroo got the equalizer after a few minutes. Blui Arriola banked in a goal to give QCU a lead, 2-1, at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Socceroo caught up anew to make it 2-2 before Arriola got his second to give QCU the lead. Dan Villarico added an insurance goal, which proved important as Socceroo scored again in the final minute.
QCU is still in third place in the rankings with ten wins, two draws and three losses for 29 points. They will face Union Internacional next week in Alabang.
Pachanga still leads the division with 40 points, just two ahead of Agila.
Meanwhile in Division 1, the Philippine Army and the Philippine Air Force fought to a 2-2 draw, while the Loyola Meralco Sparks beat Stallion Gilligan’s, 3-0.
