The Philippine men’s football team, Azkals, will have a tune-up match this
weekend at the Panaad football field in Bacolod City, against Ceres Football
Club and Global Football Club in preparation for its friendly game against
Malaysia on June 1, Juvy Lizares, president of the Visayas Football League, said
yesterday.
The Azkals will play against Ceres FC on Saturday at 4 p.m. while Global FC
will match against Ceres FC at 7 p.m. The winners will have a rematch on Sunday
at 4 p.m. while losers will play against each other at 7p.m.
Richard Joson, of the Philippine Football Federation said the tune up games
are all geared towards the return game here in Panaad on June 12 where Azkals
will play against Guam for the FIFA International Friendly match.
He said this is an A Team match that holds the FIFA world rankings and the
result of the game against Guam national team will affect the Azkals team
standing that is currently at 148th place.
Lizares also said the performance of the Azkals will not be affected even
without its goal keeper Neil Etheridge, who was given a one-match suspension by
the AFC Disciplinary Committee last month.
He said the team has 3 to 4 goal keepers who are all capable to replacing
Etheridge, and that he and even team
coachHans Michael
Weiss have
not yet decided who will be its first keeper in its game against Guam.
“They are now in training camp to prepare for their matches next week against
Malaysia on June 1, against Indonesia on June 5 and June 12 here in Negros so I
suspect Coach Weiss will decide on his first 11 close to the date of the match
already,” Lizares said.
The Azkals will also have a football clinic with the Bantay Bata kids
tomorrow at the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, Joson added. *LTG

Tune-up matches in preparation for....... well....... more tune-up matches! LOL!! It's nice to know that football is being taken a bit more seriously but this already taking the piss.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you suggest then? A friendly with Barca?
DeleteLOL! I don't think you understand what I was trying to say!
DeleteThey're playing friendlies (even as far as having a mini tournament) in preparations for................. FRIENDLIES! That's a bit over the top!
surely if he has been banned for a competitive match then he cannot serve it in a friendly?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you but PFF still think he can serve it in a friendly... Lets see what happen after they field Neil in next AFC Challenge Cup match....
DeleteThe suspension of Neil Etheridge based on the terms dictated by the AFC Disciplinary Committee pursuant to Article 38 Paragraph 2 of the AFC Disciplinary Code ---the ONE match suspension of Neil is to be served in the national team’s “SUBSEQUENT OFFICIAL MATCH”.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the June 1 match against Malaysia is just a friendly it is still recognized as an official match. Therefore, the PFF did not err in the implementation of the suspension of Neil and PFF is complying with the decision of AFC.
No, I dont really think so . I think the suspension has to be in a official match organized by AFC. In a tournament AFC organize like AFC Challenge Cup, Asian Cup or World Cup qualifiers. Not in a friendly organized by Malaysia. What`s the penalty if he can serve it in a friendly ? I know that PFF think he can serve the suspension in friendly.
ReplyDeleteAnyway let`s see what happens next year ...
Jonny, here is the exact text released by AFC on Neil’s pronounced suspension.
ReplyDelete“Suspended for ONE match to be served pursuant to Art. 38 par. 2 a) of the Code & fined USD3000 for the violation of Article 57 of the AFC Disciplinary Code”
This is the Article referred to by AFC - ARTICLE 38 Paragraph 2
Article 38 CARRYING OVER MATCH SUSPENSION
“2. Unless otherwise decided by a judicial body, match suspensions in relation to an expulsion pronounced on a player outside of a competition (separate match[es]) or not served during the competition for which they were intended (elimination or the last match in the competition) are carried over as follows:
AFC competitions for representative teams shall be carried over to the representative team’s subsequent official match”
As a general rule by AFC, every match suspension (of players and other persons) is carried over from one stage to the next in the same competition.
The violation of Article 57 (offensive behavior) by Neil occurred outside the competition or match as Neil couldn’t play because he had to serve a suspension due to a red card in a previous match against Turkmenistan. The infraction was committed in the stands and not in the playing field or its nearby surroundings.
Yes,and next official match is AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers in March?
