THE U-22 squad lost to the Azkals, 3-0, in a friendly at San Carlos City the other day.
The friendly was part of the John Carmona-led squad’s preparation for the AFC Under-22 Asian Cup Qualfiers in Myanmar from June 23 to July 3.
Phil Younghusband banked in two goals, while defender Jimmy Malaloan had an own goal. The shut-out loss follows the team’s 2-1 loss to Pasargad and a 1-1 draw with Diliman last week.
The U-22 squad and the senior Azkals were in San Carlos City for the first part of the three-week training camp and are now in Bacolod for a mini-tournament with Negros Ceres and Global FC.
Dave Gerali of Don Bosco Technological Center, a member of the U22 staff, said that the boys still have to work on their defense and finishing.
Global FC Paolo Pascual was the first keeper in the first half and was replaced by San Beda’s Anthony Albao in the last half.
“Karon pajud mi kaduwa balik as a team because ang uban players karon pa sad nakabalik ug duwa because of club commitments,” said Gerali.
Most of the players shortlisted in the U22 are members of participating clubs in the UFL League.
Aside from the UFL players, OJ Porteria and Jason De Jong who both played in the Southeast Asian Games, will also join the team.
After Bacolod, they will go back to San Carlos and for a camp under Nike Total coach Jorge Kuriyama. The team will also have a series of friendlies in Thailand.

I'm confused, tweet from (@kat_is_tough) says Anthony Tongson had an own goal, here it's Jimmy Malalo-an?
