THE Cebu Football Association (CFA) survived Negros Oriental Football Association, 2-1, to snatch a most-needed win that got them third place in their bracket of the Visayas qualifying stage of the Suzuki Under-23 National Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field.
The top three teams in the qualifying stages in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will advance to the national championship next year.
The tournament also serves as a two-year program that aims to come up with a strong lineup for the Southeast Asian Games.
CFA started slow with Norfa striking first, scoring in the 19th minute behind Daniel Castellano's direct shot from a corner pass from Regie Sesneros.
CFA recovered in the 53rd minute when Ben Lorenzo Magbanua scored the equalizer, heading the ball after a mad scramble at the penalty area.
In the 87th, Anthony Bryan Tabuelog banked in another header off a cross from Agapito Baclaan to snatch the lead and the victory.
Cebu finished the tournament in third place with 10 points, while Norfa is at fourth place with four points. Norfa will face Leyte Football Association tomorrow.
