THE Philippine Under-22 team has started its preparations for the qualifying round of the AFC Under-22 Asian Cup from June 23 to July 3 at Myanmar.
The team conducted tryouts for provincial players and started training last week under head coach John Carmona, with Don Bosco coach and former Queen City United player Dave Gerali as goalkeeping coach.

The initial plan of hiring under-21 coach Zoran Dordevic was canceled after he decided to return to Serbia.

The team won its first friendly against Agila FC, 3-0, and will next take on the Loyola Meralco Sparks Loyola on May 9 at the artificial turf at BC.
Aside from the friendlies, the team will also have a training camp under Nike Total Football coach Jorge Kuriyama on May 28 to June 5, and they will also have a series of friendlies in Thailand.
The Philippines is in Group G with Myanmar, South Korea, Malaysia. Vietnam and Chinese Taipei. There are 41 teams overall that were grouped into seven who will be fighting for the 15 slots in the qualifiers.
