  2. 4-0 final. Super performance of Azkals....the only sad thing is that Schrock and Borromeo will miss next match in Kuwait due to 2nd yellow card..........arrgghhh

  3. yeah, but lucena and ray will be back. even coach weiss said it after the game. and if cagara will play then we are all set. the biggest loss is schrock.

  4. Is the Kuwait series a home and away? First game in Kuwait?

If so, just play with 10 men in front of goal, minimize damage (hopefully come away with a draw) and then play for the marbles in Manila with Aly Bor and schrock back.

I really wanna see Mulders play in the middle. Jonsson will replace him at LB. Just dunno who will replace Aly.

Maybe have three back (Anton, Jonsson and Gier) then place two stoppers in front of Gier (once again, i have no idea they have left on defense). Mulders and Ott in the middle. Chiefy and JYHB on the wings, Phil or Angel up front.

  7. playing defensive with 10 men infront of the goal? not my cup of tea. they could still loose. let the azkals play their game and lets see how it turns out. getting lucena and ray back is a big boost. and if cagara is fit and shows up, then the defense is all set. mulders in midfield with ott. might even move lucena as a CB.

  8. i dont like parking the bus in front of goal either but i've yet to see lucena play and we'll be going in without our sweeper.

if we can play total football against a side with the quality of kuwait then im all for it.

Just dont know if we have the cards to do it without aly bor and schrock out.

then again, maybe the lucena kid is good. pls fill me in, ive never seen him play.

  9. lucena should have the experience to do well as CB. he is a very good player that can help in defense as well as midfield, depends where he plays. he is a shoe-in on the team. btw, he isnt a kid, he is in his 30, and has over a decade with experience in the danish top league where he has been a regular in the starting lineup. also been capped for the danish U21 and had un-official cap for the danish mens team. this guy has experience. he is a defensive midfielder and also plays defense for his club. he is the right guy to guide the younger players to new heights. he is really an asset. i really hope he can play against kuwait.

  10. sounds good. hope he can play!

  11. yeah, would be really a big boost i both Danish players would be available....so we can compensate the loss....in case we keep it narrow in Kuwait all is possible in Manila Lucena, Cagara and the missing Borromeo and Schrock......let's see............like coach Weiss said after the match it is not yet sure if the 2nd yellow cards will be valid....maybe they don't count for the next round (but i doubt it as usually 2 bookings means one match missing internationally)

  12. It will not count as it is an advantage for the waiting 2nd round team who didn't play. Might check the Fifa rules on WCQ games as I'am not 100% certain.

  13. Hoping that they dont carry over but if they do, i hope Lucena and Cagara can join the team too. We need more options on defense other than plugging in Gener wherever we have a hole.

I'd like to see Matt Hartman on the pitch as well.

God knows how far this team can go if we can get all our players to play at the same time. Kuwait's ranked much higher but maybe with a complete lineup, anything can happen.

  14. Excellent result just two shy from my predicted result. Sri Lanka aint no push overs as proven by the way they handled the ball. Unlike Mongolia, they actually tried to score.

  15. i am not much a fan of AZKALS , but seeing the game gives me goose bumps...more so when etheridge cried , when chieffy? salute while singing the national anthem and when chieffy scored the first goal (very impressive) as compared to the other goals. Now, I can feel that the team has developed the "heart" to win and not just the "mind" to dream
Sri Lanka did their best but i think the team needs more support from Sri Lanka sports assoc. as well as their countrymen, like the shortcoming that the Phil. team experienced before.
Kuwait vs Philippines is the real game , and I will definitely watch it here or anywhere. To the players , Aim High , Train Hard , and remember to always put your feet on the ground. the game with Kuwait will be one bloody hell of a game...

  16. CONGRATULATIONS to the Azkals for a dominating performance! AWESOME game!

Both Borromeo and Schrock will be available for the game against Kuwait since yellow cards are not carried over into the next round.

  19. Good news.

In any case, i do hope they can still get Lucena (not released by his club?) and Cagara (recovered from injury?) to shore up the defense.

These two, with their experience from their respective clubs, will be welcome additions as we continue to move up the competition ladder. Jonsson hopefully plays at LB so Mulders can play his natural position in midfield.

    Go Azkals!

  20. To the guy who said Sri Lanka needs more support from their countrymen. SO TRUE...look at their field. They have a good cricket team though that goes VERY far.

As for the RP, they need a league. NOW. they need to Expand Rizal Stadium. It looked so small on the live stream I was watching. Beautiful setting, but an enlargement is in order. Panaad as well, more respect to Cebu and Visaya. that's what the PFF needs.

  21. Al-Mutwa vs. Borromeo??? I CANT WAIT FOR THIS!!!

  22. I wish they start working on the defense sooner. Looks like we're weak on 1 v 1 at the flanks and the defensive cover is nowhere to be seen.

  23. Ed so true. that back line is rickety.

  24. I like Maulders vision and distribution. Very composed and very efficient. He would be very effective in his natural midfield position. Shrocky is very good defensively and offensively. He is like an energy bunny. James Younghusband is solid fixture. His work rate is very high. The through ball that he gave to Guirado was the one I've been waiting to see for a long time in this team. It was picture perfect. Chiefy is solid in the left wing. Great shot! Phil did good but he needs to improve to time the pass so as not to get flagged. He also need to pass a little bit. Ott was very composed. He organized the offense pretty well. In one instance he outmaneuvered 3 defenders. Great ball control and dribbling.

Araneta is good player but he needs to realize that he doesn't need to score to be effective. He needs to learn how to read the situation and learn to pass.

For the Kuwait game, we will definitely need Ray Jonsson and Lucena back.

  25. The back four are in their late 20s or early 30s. They're not as quick on their feet if they have to cover ground. They were oftentimes exposed in the first leg of Sri Lanka.

That's why even if i loved Schrock (did you all see his rocks? now he's in shape!) in the middle, he might be the eventual replacement of Jonsson. Cagara will eventually replace Gier or Anton as they get older.

I hope Lucena will play, we need someone of his calibre against Kuwait.

  26. On the first leg against Kuwait, I like them to play more defensively and just counter attack and pick some spots. I hope in that way we could hold them from scoring and frustrate them. In the second leg however we need to play to win. With the support of our home fans we can make some miracles.

  27. It would have been much better if Shrocky took the penalty shot to award him of his hard work. Nevertheless, it was great goal for Phil.

Congrats also to PSC and PFF for renovating the historic RMC. It's totally much better than Panaad. I hope they have future plans to add more seats.
