  4. My Prediction

    1) If Weiss and his boys are seriously eyeing for a miraculous win on aggregate and coming up with "we need 4 goals" "if we concede a goal, let's go for 5 goals" kind of strategy/mentality..

    Philippines 1 - 5 Kuwait

    2) If Weiss and his boys are smart enough..

    Philippines 1 - 1 Kuwait

  11. I think Kuwait will sit back and lurking for counter attacks....they don't need to make the game. I guess they just shift on higher gear in case Azkals would lead 2-0 or so....but it will be hard enough to shoot one goal only. They should make a good match for themselves and the fans and give Kuwait a hard fight. A draw would be excellent, a close win even better....but who knows

  19. Thanks Schroeck!!!!! But our defenders are just looking/watching..... defend!!!! Thanks Neil!!!!

  20. yes, defense is to worry about. If can improve it in the future....then we can compete better with stronger teams

  21. 1-1 now...... it's over now!

  22. 2-1 kuwait..defense :-((

  23. at least a consolation goal for our team

  24. 10 men-Kuwait completely outplay Azkals.. What the hell have we done after that Kuwaiti guy was sent off ?

    ReplyDelete
  25. ^^ think that it would become easier now....it is always harder to play vs 10 players....and it seemed again that we have steam for 60 min. only........

    ReplyDelete
  26. This shows that Kuwait is superior to the azkals. Even if they were down with 10 players, they still focused on attacking. There was never talk about going in a defensive mode. It was a fun game to watch, and Kuwait plays great football. Good game with nice goals from both sides.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Agree, it was a nice match...also from our team which showed that they can compete partly....give the team a few more years and we will see where we stand then.....too bad that some of the players coming into their age already....Keep it going Azkals

    ReplyDelete
  28. Now it seems obvious.
It wasn't the weather that made the Azkals overly exhausted in the late 2nd half in Kuwait.
Tonight, 10-men Kuwait farted around with us in final 15 to 20 minutes just like they did in the 1st leg.

So it's just the problem of Azkals stamina. We obviously don't have enough stamina to fight for 90 full minutes against such fast and strong opponent.

    ReplyDelete
  29. "it is always harder to play vs 10 players"

What theory is this? Then field just 10 men from the beginning. lol

It can be said like this though

"It's not as easy as it looks to play against 10 men team"

    ReplyDelete
  30. ^^ correct ....the one of the exceptions i guess is Schröck who has the stamina....that's the difference between pro players. Its like in many games, minnows can compete a certain time, mostly they run out of steam in the final 20-30 minutes and goals are scored against them. This we have to improve also defending skills....but nevertheless we can be satisfied with the game in the 60 minutes....and who knows when Phil made the 2-0 right after the restart in the 2nd half....

    ReplyDelete
  31. hahaha, i mean 10 players give more percent to compensate the deficit......there are a lot of examples in international football

    ReplyDelete
  32. beautiful game!

    ReplyDelete
  33. We need better players on the bench. Looks like Weiss is scared to use his reserves.

    ReplyDelete
  34. true..time and again it's shown that it can get harder to score against teams that go a man down..real football fans know that..

    ReplyDelete
  35. And there are further more examples that a team, after played well until losing a man, gets eventually dominated and lose.

I say again, it's just "not as easy as it looks" to fight for 10-men team. Still obviously better than vs 11 men.

    ReplyDelete
  36. (correction)
to fight for 10-men -> to fight against 10-men

    ReplyDelete
  37. yeah, we just can put on a good staring eleven on the pitch, the bench is (still) lacking in quality. But I am hopeful that in a few years we can compensate this (if we continue working hard and with passion). To bad that we have to wait again 4 years for the next WC qualifing game.......then the squad will have a different face, a lot of players I guess won't participate then again....but first of all: looking forward to the AFC challenge cup finals next year. A good chance to make to the AFC finals.....

  38. A 1-5 aggregate score says one thing loud and clear: the Azkals are not yet ready to compete at a higher level than ASEAN.
Roll on the u-23's at the SEA games and let's hope a few unseen stars come shining through.
With a coach too scared to use subs even when losing in a must-win game there must be quite a few places in the senior squad up for grabs.

    ReplyDelete
  39. now you can see why coach weiss is hesistant to use his subs. your answer is clear when these two were substituted this evening - araneta and misagh are simply not in the level of the first eleven. the attack of kuwait was mostly along the flanks using fluid and accurate one touch passing thats why the ball can quickly move forward. their players were so skilled that cheffy and james lost steam keeping up. the only way we can advance the ball quickly against this superior team is the long ball, but then again, our strikers are not that physically fit

  40. some updates: Vietnam overcome Qatar 2-1 and made a least a victory, same goes for Bangladesh downing Lebanon 2-0 on home turf. Even the heavily beaten Nepal side came to a 1-1 draw vs. Jordan, at least to relief their pains after got whipped 9-0 last Saturday. Indonesia made it for the first time to round 3 after beating 4-3 Turkemistan (a thriller in the last few minutes).

  41. "With a coach too scared to use subs even when losing in a must-win game"

The words 'too scared' are wrong! Why the hell would he be 'scared' to make a sub?!? The right word is 'cautious'!! And rightly so because who on the bench would come on and make an impact?? You can't really name any especially when considering the opposition!

And this is not a 'must win game'!! It's only a must win game for the deluded!

  42. Caution is something you use when you're winning.
When you're down but not out in a cup game and you know there's not a hope in hell of scoring 5 with the 11 on the pitch you would throw your granny on and hope for miracles.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Admit it folks - it was a beautiful game...well fought. FOOTBALL is the name of the GAME , just support it and Chill @j@

As Weiss said in a recent interview where he was pretty much pissed off, who would he bring on in the hope to get this miracle everybody seems to think is achievable?!? We don't have depth in quality and that's clear as day and that just leads back to the question, who would come on to turn the game in our favor?!?

  45. It's so pointless to say here that it's hard to fight against 10-men team. People say that when it's unexpectedly hard to score against 10-men team as they stick more to parking the bus and all, but tonight was not the case. Not only we couldn't find a good chance to score after a Kuwaiti guy was sent off, we just were totally dominated by 10-men Kuwait. The worst part was the last 10 minutes where Kuwait took 90% of possession and made a toy of us.

    ReplyDelete
  46. granted the team lacks depth, in hindsight, perhaps bringing in ian in the second half might have helped. given he's not as gifted a player, but fresh legs and his tireless running would have been an option.
guirado was either too slow, or hurt or both to be effective anymore in the second half. he had his share of tumbles on the turf and he doesn't seem to be 100%.
the Kuwait team was coasting most of the game. then when they went down a man, and realized they were down a goal in the game its like they switched to another gear. a gear none of our players have just yet.

but we'll get there, just keep on playing.

    ReplyDelete
  47. give the team a few more years, of playing together and proper training, surely by then we can compete at the Asian level. It was a good game, it exposed the weakness of our team which I'm sure the coaching staff took note of. Let's continue to support the hard work of the players, staff, management, and even the fans. We're all in this together, for the love of the game.
