South Cotabato to host PFF-Smart National Club Championships qualifying match


Members of the Philippine Azkals, national and international football players under the Kaya Football Club (Kaya FC) will see action at theSouth Cotabato Sports Complex (SCSC) on January 9, for the the upcoming qualifying match against M’lang Football Club enroute for thePhilippine Football Federation (PFF)-Smart National Club Championships.
The match is part of the 16 qualifying rounds conducted in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in preparation for the championship match to be held in Metro Manila next year (2013).
Only two football teams in Mindanao, the Romgarjal FC from Dipolog City and the M’lang FC in North Cotabato qualified to play for the “knock-out” match early next year; the latter’s game will be held here in the province since no standard stadium is available in M’lang.
Cyril Dofitas, PFF head of competitions department said the holding of the sports event in South Cotabato will boost province’s sports tourism.
“We have seen South Cotabato as a suited venue for this event after it successfully hosted several national sports competitions in the past years; not to mention its standard stadium– the SCSC, as the best option we have,” Dofitas said.
25 members of of the KAYA FC are expected to come: 4 members of the Philipppine Azkals— OJ Porteria, Jason Sabio, Lexton Moy and Chris Greatwich; 6 former national players— Bate Burkey, Anton Del Rosario, Aly Borromeo, Darren Hartmann, Yannick Tuason and Eddie Mallari; Guam national player, Jonahan Romero; 11 international players— Nicolas Bolzzico, Eric Dagroh; Dario Dakic, Sabah Garmaroudi, Touisha Hosoe, Sean Lliff, Alu Kigbu,masanari Omura, Troy Osborne, Adrian Semblat and Ukogchukwu Ubiam; and 3 local players— Armand del Rosario, Junior Munoz and Antonio Ugarte.
Giovanni Jintula president of the South Cotabato Football Association said preparations are underway for the holding of said event.
“We are now working on the necessary preparations, from the transportation needs, meals and accommodation, playing venue including security of the players,” Jintula said.
Apart from the football match, the PFF and the Kaya FC will also conduct football clinic to the children as part of their social program to promote skills developmentt, physical fitness, cooperations and sportsmanship to the children at an early age. ~by Hydee S. Templonuevo, Gov’s Ofc, Info Div.
