Best is yet to come for Philippines football says Azkals Coach Weiss

Karl Decena, InterAKTV ·

National coach Hans Michael Weiss said that the best is yet to come for Philippine football after an impressive year for the Azkals.
In a Christmas message to Filipino fans, Weiss said that the future is bright for the Azkals after their achievements this year, which include reaching their highest FIFA World Ranking in history at 143rd last November and a second straight semifinal run in the 2012 ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup this month.
Last March, the Azkals bagged third place in the 2012 Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup, a football competition among emerging nations in Asia, and clinched the Philippine Football Peace Cup last September in Manila, the country’s first international title in almost a century.
“I am 100% convinced that we will be stronger in the next years and a football nation to be taken seriously,” Weiss said in a statement Sunday.
The Azkals set new record-high world rankings three times this year, becoming one of the best teams in the region based on the global football ladder.
“With all the preparations and intensive training periods, we were travelling with high hopes to the AFF Suzuki Cup where we duplicated the success of 2010 by reaching the semifinals again and beating Myanmar the first time in the history of Philippine Football,” Weiss said.
“Despite not reaching the Finals in the Suzuki Cup, I think we have grown steadily in the past 2 years under my guidance, creating one historical success after another, being the “most improved team” in the FIFA and ELO rankings and having gained respect and recognition from our opponents and the WORLDWIDE FOOTBALL COMMUNITY.”
Weiss, who is expected to stay on with the Azkals after the expiration of his contract, hopes that people will continue to support the team in coming years.
“With the combined efforts of all stakeholders in the country and going in one direction, I am sure we will bring joy and glory to the wonderful country of the PHILIPPINES!!” he said.

  1. I have never met a coach who likes tooting his own horn so much. The guy is so insecure he has to list his so called accomplishments. Real successful coaches don't like to brag. Their records speak for themselves. Pathetic. We really need a change.

    1. How pathetic of you if you honestly think that this man just mentioned what has happened over the year out of nowhere. I think you are the one that is so seriously insecure that you have to make dumb comment just to make you feel good about yourself and putting down a man who was simply answering questions he was asked during his interview. How pathetic of you. Look, I do not know this coach personally, but I think your comment is quite pathetic and is really more about yourself more than anything else. You need to learn to put yourself from a different standpoint for once young fella. You really must foolishly see this man as so inferior and incompetent. But then again, I think it's about you satisfying your ego by judging someone without even trying to see things from his perspective. You're a fool.

    2. This guy is one of those few who will never be satisfied no matter what accomplishments the Azkals have achieved. He could be one of those who belonged to the past corrupt administration who is now in the fringes of Philippine football and trying to make himself relevant even if only as an anonymous poster. Cmn guys, give this poor soul his Happy Christmas!

    3. To the Anonymous writer of 24 December 2012 07:52. If you can do a better job, I recommend the following items: 1) Identify yourself and don't hide under the skirt of the name "Anonymous." 2) Visit Dan Palami and apply for the job, otherwise, shut up. By the way, I'd like you to know that a lot of people will sleep well knowing Coach Weiss is guiding the Azkals to play as a team. If Coach Weiss eats you up, you can visit a psychiatrist. You can use one. Merry Christmas!

  2. Because nobody is admiring Coach Weiss anymore the only thing he could do is praise himself in front of the media. Pathetic...

    1. Again, this is a man answering questions for this interview. Pathetic is you if you honestly think the coach just shoved his words to the media to be broadcasted or be on front page. Put yourself in the right place before you satisfy your ego by making dumb comment. You certainly don't admire him, and I don't know him either, but certainly this man is a much better position than you are and has more people admiring him than you. Let's compare you and the coach, you do the same, juxtapose you and him, and compare objectively is who is more puny and a in a more pathetic position. I think the answer is clear and it's who you see in the mirror when you look at yourself. :)

    2. Why don't you criticize Coach Weiss for performance and not for self praise? Performance is the platform of discussion. You are another PSYCHO like the Anonymous guy above. Please visit a psychiatrist. It may help you settle down.

    1. That's because these people do actually have accomplishments to show for. You people people just stay quiet until you have something to show for. May I ask what you have accomplished over the course of your puny existence that is comparable to these guys? That's what I thought.

  4. C'mon guys; give the poor soul a Happy Christmas.
He came as part of a package deal from the German FA 2 years ago and they don't send their best coaches to one of the weakest teams in Asia.

Some day the PFF will be able to afford the NT coach of their choice; until then keep dreaming.

  5. The Azkals have reached an unprecented level that no other Philippine team has done in the past and in such a very short time. For sure Coach Hans Michael Weiss was key member of the coaching staff that made the Philippines become a team to reckon with in our part of the word. Now whether another coach could have done a better job, we will never know. Let us just support our national team. The previous poster said it right: beggars can not be choosers.

    1. You have the mentality of a developed brain and perhaps from a developed society that most of these pathetic commenters on here do not have. I think if most if not all Azkal fans do think like you, then there would be inclusive progress beyond these these dumb fvcks could ever imagine.
