PHILIPPINE Olympic Committee (POC) chairman Monico Puentevella said Negros Occidental may host a Bacolod Leg of the ongoing 2010 Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup if the proposal will be considered and approved by the AFF.
The event may be held on December 16 or 19 this year at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
The prestigious biennial football competition is participated by the national football teams from Southeast Asia.
On Wednesday, upon the request of the new Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president Mariano Araneta, chairman Puentevella got the go the signal from Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon to host the match.
The undertaking will be a collaborative effort of the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa), PFF, Philippine Sports Commission and the POC.
"If the proposal pushes through, we would like to thank the new leadership of PFF for giving the Negrosanon a rare opportunity to host this highly anticipated football match. Since, we are situated at the center of the Philippines, football aficionados from all over the Visayas, especially Panay and Mindanao, would find it easier to come here. This will definitely be a super match," he said.
He congratulated the Philippine football team, saying they will give them a rousing welcome.
"If he finds the time, we will invite President Noynoy Aquino, too. He can be the number one cheerleader," Puentevella, who used to be a member of Fifa, said. (Jerome S. Galunan)

Come on NOFA and PFF & POC make it happen. The country needs to capitalize on the momentum to grow this sport. Escalate it to the highest levels of government to get backing support and whatever infrastructure in place to get approved.
ReplyDeleteGo, go, go NOFA, PFF & POC... the Philippines needs this! It's time for football to take the stage, time for us to fully support our Football team. There is so much potential for the Filipino to excel at this sport!
ReplyDeleteLet's see if our politicians can do their job and do something about this.
ReplyDeletepanaad have done it in the past, the reasons given by martinez are not acceptable it only proves he's not the right man for Philippine football.
ReplyDeleteI actually think that in the long run it's better if we don't get to host this game. It will be a wake up call to the powers-that-be that we need to have one or more international standard soocer stadiums.
ReplyDeletePeople! you guys can email the aff at their website www.affsuzukicup.com Lets all ask them to reconsider and let the azkals play in front of their home crowd.
ReplyDeleteHi...i'm a football fan from Indonesia. First of all...congratulation for making it to the semis. It's good for football in this region to have a new contestant in the aff semis rather than the usual suspects ;) This philippines team obviously is completely different than with the one that we thrashed 13-1 in 2002 aff cup (back then it was known as the tiger cup). It's still our biggest win ever in football. I hope u guys can stage the home game in your own turf. It'll be good for the fans in the philippines, and hopefully can raise the profile of football in your country. May the best team win ;)

ReplyDeleteBasta kung matuloy na itong laro na 'to, manonood ako. Kahit Bacolod pa 'yan. Once-in-a-lifetime chance 'to. Please, AFF, hear the call of the Filipino people. :D This can be the stepping stone for football's ascent in our country. Maari po lamang payagan ninyo kaming makanood ng laro ng aming koponan sa aming minamahal na bansa. :D

Monico Puentevella is one of the most corrupt person we have ever known . And he is in this administration again! to top it all , a POC Chairman at that. No wonder he supports the so called New PFF President, Mr. Mariano "Nonong" Araneta who illegaly stole the presidency from Martinez.
ReplyDeletePuentevella and Araneta Mutual Admiration CLUB!
Yes Mr. Puetevella, what did Mr. Araneta do for PFF. Now, everybody wnts a piece of the pie because our Phillippine team finally are champions. Where were all of you when all this time the Martinez administration for 3 years was working so hard to build football and have a strong team? Where were you when he needed your help. Where were you Mr Araneta? Busy scheming how you would suceed in pulling the rug of the feet of Mr. Martinez. Now, you want the glory, all of you want a piece of the cake you did not help make and bake?! Shame on you! For once, be honest and do something good and be selfless!
ReplyDeleteis that you mari? lies. all lies.
ReplyDeleteit was mr palami who did all the supporting. your lies may convince the new ones but the philippine football community as a whole knows the truth.....azkaleros
