Reigning champion Global FC aims to boost its title defense bid as it takes on the Loyola Meralco Sparks in United Football League action Thursday at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill in Taguig.

Global battles Loyola at 7:30 p.m. after the match between Philippine Air Force and Kaya FC at 5:15 p.m.

Despite sitting at the second spot of the table with 40 points, Global is in a favorable situation to go all the way to win the crown. The squad has a maximum of nine points to grab in its remaining three matches – enough to overtake current League leader Stallion Sta.Lucia, which has 45 points in 17 matches.

Now out of the title race, Loyola, meanwhile, wants to toughen the road to the championship for Global.

The Sparks, now with 34 points in 16 matches, still have a chance to sneak in to the second spot and improve its standing from third place last year by beating Global, which they forced to a 1-1 draw in their first encounter last April 2.

Meanwhile, Air Force and Kaya target to gain more points to improve their respective places in the standings.

Finished as a runner-up last season, Kaya, which has 25 points, looks to solidify its hold of the fourth spot.

For its part, Air Force, which is at the bottom of the standings with six points, hopes to gain more points as it fights against relegation.

AksyonTV, TV5′s 24-hour news and sports-related channel, airs the live coverage of the matches at 5 p.m. on Channel 41 in Metro Manila and Channel 29 in Cebu and Davao.
