Ho Chi Minh: Substitute Mikhaela Gavilano Jumawan scored a triple as
the Philippines thrashed Malaysia 7-0 in the AFC U-14 Girls Regional
Championship for the ASEAN region at Thong Nhat Stadium on Thursday.
It was the second win out of three matches for the Filipinas who led Malaysia 3-0 in the first half during the 70-minute match.
Jumawan,
who had scored a brace in their 7-1 whipping of Cambodia in their
opening game, came off the bench on 44 minutes and just three minutes
after that scored a goal, and then another one minute later, before
completing her triple seven minutes from time.
Earlier, the
Philippines’ floodgates of goals against the Malaysians had opened on
the 4th minute through Cecile Firmeza Deita, before midfielder Joannah
Marie Embalsado Adao took it one up to 2-0 four minutes later.
Itsuko Maree Bacatan then took it to 4-0 with her brace on 19 and 36 minutes for Marnelli Salvador Dimzon’s side.
The
Philippines maintained their 4th position in the six-nation table after
the game while Zhang Hong’s winless Malaysian side stay at the bottom.
The
Filipinas will go into their fourth match in the inaugural girls’
regional competition against Myanmar while Malaysia take on Cambodia on
Saturday.
