KAYA survived a gritty Philippine Air Force side, 1-0, behind a late goal by one of its reinforcements to grab solo fourth place in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Last year’s runner-up needed more than regulation time to scrape past an opponent that’s battling relegation as Logan McDaniel unlocked the Air Force defense in second-half stoppage time to secure the victory.
It was the first goal for the 23-year-old American striker, who was acquired three months ago in the transfer window midway through the season.
“It was kind of a relief to get that goal late because we were frustrated throughout the ninety minutes. But overall, we got the result and that’s what matters,” McDaniel said.
Kaya, which now has 28 points, three points ahead of Pachanga-Diliman, dealt the Airmen a huge blow in their bid to stay in the top flight next season.
The cellar-dwelling Airmen have only one chance remaining to climb out of the direct relegation zone with a game left.
The military club is a point behind Army, which still has a game in hand.
Already eliminated from title contention, Kaya will try to play the spoiler’s role in its final game of the season against Global.
