Kaya FC set to open PFF Smart National Club Championship in South Cotabato
The battle to become the one of the country’s best football clubs is set to begin this month, as the Philippine Football Federation-SMART National Club Championships start on Wednesday.
The competition will feature 10 United Football League squads and six provincial teams which will play in a knockout tournament played in different provinces in the country.
UFL squad Kaya FC will open the competition on Wednesday as it clashes with M’Lang FC of North Cotabato at the South Cotabato Sports Complex in Koronadal City.
The tournament will resume on Saturday, with four matches slated in different provinces in the country. The Loyola Meralco Sparks will tangle with Cavite-based squad Flame United FC at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, while Baguio United FC plays UFL newcomer General Trias International FC on the same day at the Benguet State University football field.
UFL squad Pachanga FC will also battle Division Two squad Cebu Queen City United at the Aboitiz Football Field in Cebu City.
Meanwhile, national football team star Chieffy Caligdong will make his debut with the Green Archers United Globe as it faces Romgarjal FC of Zamboanga del Norte also on Saturday at the Jose Rizal Memorial State University football field in Dapitan City.
Three matches will then be played on Sunday to close the knockout stages. The Rizal Stadium will host the matches between UFL squads Pasargad FC and Philippine Army FC, as well as the game between League titlist Global and Nomads FC.
UFL Cup champion Penson Stallion Giligan’s will meet fellow Iloilo-based squad Ceres FC at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod on the same day.
Winners of each match will advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
