BAGUIO City Football Association yielded three goals to one against the visiting General Trias International and failed to advance in the quarterfinals of the SMART PFF National Club Championship at the BSU football pitch.
The Koreans leaned on second-half strikes from Cha Won Jae and Lee Seong Woo to repel Baguio United in a game played with thick fog and occasional rains showers in the entire 90 minute ball game.
BCFA actually controlled the tempo of the ball game in the early minutes with chances by left winger Mark Signabon and Mark Ed Lusung within the first ten minutes, while Lee and Jeon Shin Seok came close for the visitors.
Baguio threatened with a header wide from Signabon in the 29th minute while moments later Friday Okoro's free kick went straight to the GTI keeper.
Fog embraced the pitch in the 33rd minute mark as GTI's Park Yi Young blasted a long-range free-kick that bounced awkwardly in front of Baguio keeper Earl Fernandez and then bounced on the rugged turf.
“We were not that organized during the Korean’s first goal. Although we stuck with our game plan, we were solid on the back, we controlled the field but we had so many errors,” said Baguio United coach Homer Alinsug.
Things turned brighter for the Baguio United Football Club backed BCFA after striker Joseph Lingwayon scored an equalizer right before the 45th minute mark in the first half of a pass from Mark Signabon.
The visiting Gen. Trias then stepped up their game in the second half employing a fierce high-pressure defense and a very aggressive 3-4-3 formation against Baguio’s 4-5-1 with Lingwayon up top.
Jeon could have given GTI its second score but his free kick clanged off the crossbar in the 52st minute.
Pressuring every ball possession, the visiting Koreans then struck another goal in the 54th minute mark courtesy of substitute Cha Won Jae who picked up a loose ball that pinballed off a defender's back.
Signabon could have leveled in the 81st but his hard volley off a beautiful control of a high ball and exquisite turn was just wide.
General Trias finished the home team with another goal in the 87th minute from Lee’s goal to make it 3-1.
