As the saying goes, “One’s loss is another’s gain.”

After signing former Pachanga star Freddy Gonzalez, the Loyola Meralco Sparks has released veteran midfielder Anto Gonzales, who will play for Pachanga in the upcoming United Football League season.
“Freddy is a welcome addition but we are also sad to lose Anto Gonzales who will be moving to Pachanga,” Sparks president Randy Roxas told InterAKTV. “He was on loan to us from Diliman. Agreement was that he would move back to Diliman if they made it to the first division.”
Roxas said that the loan of Gonzales only lasted as soon as his original squad, Diliman Victory Liner FC, advances to Division One. The newly-promoted Pachanga, which Gonzalez used to own, was sold to Diliman just before the Cup started last year.
That move led most Diliman players to suit up for Pachanga during its quarterfinal run in the Cup last year.
Also a member of the national team, Gonzales has been a vital part of Loyola since last season, providing a steady presence in the midfield which helped the Sparks attack anchored by star striker Phil Younghusband.
With his move to Pachanga, Gonzales will reunite with some of his former players in the University of the Philippines men’s football team, which he also coaches.
