As the end of his contract nears, Philippine national men’s football team coach Hans Michael Weiss has yet to agree to the six-month extension offered to him by the country’s football body.
“Haven’t signed it yet, but we’ll see in the next days,” said Weiss, whose contract will expire on Wednesday.
After guiding the Azkals to what could possibly be their most successful year in 2012, Weiss was expected to continue his duties as the national team coach.
He led the squad to a second straight semifinal appearance in the ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup, as well as a third-place finish in the 2012 Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup and a title run in the Philippine Football Peace Cup, the country’s first football title in almost a century.
But the Philippine Football Federation offered Weiss only a six-month extension last week, a far cry from the two-year contract he signed in 2011. That put doubts on whether the PFF wants to keep the German coach long-term, especially with the Azkals competing in the qualifiers of the 2014 Challenge Cup in a tournament which could determine Weiss’ future should he sign the extension.
Despite that, Weiss hinted that an agreement might be reached soon.
“Yeah it looks a little bit better,” he said. “We’ll see what the next days bring.”

I hope he does not sign it... so that we can have a beter coach
ReplyDeleteA good coach would have told his bosses to shove a 6 month extension where the sun doesn't shine.
ReplyDeleteIf he accepts it means NT development will be stuck in going nowhere neutral.
