Ceres Fc shocks UFL Cup champ Stallion in PFF Nationals ; Global , Pasargad advance
Ceres FC of Negros Occidental crashed into the quarterfinals of the Philippine Football Federation-SMART National Club Championships after stunning United Football Cup titlist Pension Stallion Giligan’s, 1-0, Sunday at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.
Korean import Kim Jung Mook scored in the first half to give Ceres a 1-nil edge, which Stallion couldn’t recover from.
With the victory, Ceres advanced to the quarterfinals to face powerhouse Global FC, which prevailed in its match against Nomads FC, 2-1, at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
National team members Carli de Murga and Patrick Reichelt both scored in the second half to lift Global to victory.
Nomads still found the back of the net off a penalty kick in injury time, but it was not enough to overcome its deficit to Global.
Pasargad FC advanced to the next round after edging Philippine Army FC, 2-1, also at the Rizal Stadium.
Nigerian striker Emmanuel Mbata and Johan Taher both scored in the first half to give the triumph to Army, while Ricardo Becite nailed a goal in the second half for Army’s lone goal of the match.
Pasargad will meet fellow UFL squad General Trias International FC in the quarterfinals slated next week, which will also feature knockout matches between Kaya FC and the Loyola Meralco Sparks and Green Archers United Globe versus Pachanga FC.

Jonathan Alexander de Guzmán (born 13 September 1987) is a Canadian-born footballer, who plays as an attacking midfielder and is currently playing for Swansea City on loan from Villareal. De Guzmán was born in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada and is of Jamaican and Filipino descent.[1] His father Bobby, from the Philippines, and mother Pauline, from Jamaica, came to Canada when they were ten years old and have three children; a daughter Jenelle and the two sons Jonathan and Julian.[2] De Guzmán's older brother, Julian de Guzmán, is also a professional football player, who currently plays for RCD Mallorca.
ReplyDeleteDe Guzmán was born in Canada, but made himself available for the Netherlands after he gained Dutch citizenship in 2008. He was capped four times for the Netherlands U21, scoring three goals and was active on the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. De Guzmán progressed through the Feyenoord Academy, making his first team debut in 2005 and has played over 100 matches for the club from Rotterdam. In the summer of 2010 de Guzmán signed a three-year contract with RCD Mallorca following a free transfer. The following summer he was purchased by Villarreal.
De Guzmán is also known for being a free-kick specialist.
