Club vs country row a thing of the past as UFL vows support for Azkals

THE United Football League has reaffirmed its support for the Philippine men’s football team, which will be vying for honors in its most important tournament yet in May, the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup in Maldives.
In a dinner hosted by the Philippine Football Federation over the weekend to introduce new Azkals coach Thomas Dooley to the UFL club owners/managers, both parties said they have started to work out a schedule that will be beneficial to both sides.
The UFL clubs have agreed to release their players for training, Fifa-scheduled dates, and foreign training camps.
“They don’t want to disrupt the league schedule, so we want to work now together to make sure that schedules are coordinated,” UFL president Randy Roxas told Spin.ph.
That’s why there will be a scenario, according to Roxas, where in certain days, the UFL games will continue without national team players.
Both parties also agreed to allow selected players to train locally twice a week with the national side.
“For us, we want to support the national team because if they win the Challenge Cup and move over to the AFC Asian Cup, it’s a big boost for football, which will benefit everyone,” Roxas said.
