Champion Stallion pounces on 10-man Army to post three-goal romp

From Karlo SAcamos
A RESOLUTE Stallion FC side pounced on a Philippine Army side that went shorthanded in the endgame to coast to a 3-0 victory in the United Football League on Saturday night at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill.
Skipper Ruben Doctora Jr. and substitutes Naser Douroudian and Mohammed Camara were among the goals for the defending champions in the second half where the Korean-loaded Troopers went a man down after the ejection of Ronel Gener.
The Stallions thus raised their point total to eight points that vaulted them from seventh to fourth spot, while the Troopers fell a place down to sixth with seven points.
“The most important thing was defensively, we were intact. I found the back four I’m comfortable with,” said Stallions coach Ernie Nierras, referring to the backline that includes Bervic Italia, David Basa, and promising Filipino-Italian center-back Simon Rota.
“It’s still the final third (that needs improvement),” he added. “We’re very indecisive in what we want to do. We’re still very vertical.”
But the match opened up in the second half after a scoreless first 45 minutes as Douroudian opened the back of the net in the 62nd, just seven minutes after replacing former Army man Meliton Pelayo.
A minute later, Gener was sent off with a straight red card for reckless high challenge in a development the Stallions took advantage of as Doctora scored in the 87th, before Camara, who came in for Ousseynou Diop in the 81st, completed the rout by striking a minute into injury time.
