A STREAKING Global FC aims to inch closer to leader Loyola when it tangles with Green Archers United on Saturday at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill.
Breathing down the neck of the Sparks since the beginning of the tournament, the second-running side has a chance to add more pressure to the league-leading Sparks and stretch its unbeaten run to six games.
A win for Global in the 8:30 p.m. affair with the Archers will hike its point sum to 18 points, just one behind the Sparks, who have started to slow down after a sizzling start to the back-to-back title bid, as evidenced by their 3-3 draw against Socceroo and hard-earned 2-1 win over Pachanga.
The development has definitely benefited Global, which is now the league’s hottest team.
The powerhouse squad, which had 11 players called up to the Azkals training squad, is oozing with confidence after a 9-0 stomping of Socceroo last Tuesday.
“We can’t affect what Loyola does. We can only affect what Global does,” Global coach Leigh Manson said. “
Despite their hot streak, the Scottish mentor can still see things to improve on in his squad.
“Where do you want me to start? The list goes on and on,” Manson said, ruing that they lost a lot of possession in the first half of the Socceroo game due to some errors.
Still, Global is a heavy favorite against the sixth-running Archers, whose last game was more than a week ago, a 7-1 rout over Socceroo.
Earlier, slumping squads Pachanga and Pasargad face off 6:15 p.m.
Pachanga, which has slid to seventh after three straight losses, hopes to end the skid against a cellar-dwelling Pasargad side that has yet to win in six games.
