DEFENDING champion Stallion FC leaned on another stellar defensive showing to hack out a scrappy 2-0 victory over hapless Pasargad in the United Football League on Thursday night at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill.
With an offense still leaving much to be desired, the Stallions’ defense once again proved vital in shutting out their cellar-dwelling opponents that translated to their second successive win and third overall in seven games and improved their point sum to 11 points.
The fourth-running Stallions also dealt Pasargad its fifth consecutive defeat against one draw to remain with a solitary point to show.
“Offensively, we’re still trying to survive,” Stallions coach Ernie Nierras said. “I don’t care if we keep winning (this way) as long as we win and our opponent scores zero.”
Naser Doroudian and Hamed Hajimehdi emerged the goalscorers for the Stallions, who even survived after going down to 10 men late in the game due to the ejection of Mohammted Camara.
The Stallions finally unlocked the Pasargad defense five minutes in the second half when Doroudian slotted home a left-footed strike inside the box.
Pasargad saw a glimmer of hope in the 79th minute when the Stallions lost Camara, who was sent off with a straight red card for spitting on an opponent.
Despite going a man down, the Stallions sneaked in a goal a minute before injury time when Hajimehdi fired a low free-kick attempt that went past the Pasargad human wall and into the bottom right corner of the net.
