The United Football League transfer window slams shut at midnight April 26, officially closing the period when clubs can add players to their roster. The Loyola Meralco Sparks have already signed Curt Dizon and Napo Busillo so far, and the club has officially added winger Jake Morallo and goalkeeper Saba Garmaroudi to the lineup as well. The duo are First Division veterans that add more depth to the Sparks.
Sadeghi transfers from 2nd Division club Laos. Prior to his stint with the current second tier leaders, the Iranian shot stopper was Kaya’s first choice keeper. His performances in goal earned him the best goalkeeper award in the 2012 UFL season. Freshly finished with his Dentistry studies, Saba is ready for his return to 1st Division play, providing instant competition for current Sparks number one, Tomas Trigo.
“We all know Saba as a former 1st division keeper. He has the quality to start and can challenge immediately for a starting position if he works hard and gains the trust of coach (Simon McMenemy). This is a way for Saba to get regular first division training and coaching under coach Dang (Pedro Cecilio) and I feel this will strengthen the club for the remainder of the year. Our goal is to win Championships and to do that we need competition throughout the pitch. This will be good for both him and Tommy Trigo. With his dentistry course done he can now focus full time on football,” said team manager Armand Del Rosario.
Rejoining the club is Jake Morallo, fresh from his year-long loan at Manila Jeepney. The winger scored against the Sparks in their first round meeting in the UFL League, evidence that the tricky veteran is back to his confident best. Del Rosario was understandably pleased that the player is back with the club.
“It’s nice to have such a talented player come back to the team. This young winger has all the talent in the world. For whatever reason his growth was stunted in his stint with Meralco but this past year away from the club we have seen his confidence come back and he’s been scoring goals and playing well for Manila Jeepney. Coupled with his positive attitude, I really feel that under Coach Simon, Jake will have a positive influence on the team and will be ready to compete for a role in the team. He adds for us good depth and strength on the wing. I truly feel with the right team and the proper coaching, Jake can get to the National team in the future.”
